Just saw it. I am shocked. Rate per ‘thousand assessed’ went up by 61 cents. So the new Alton tax rate is $13.69 when it was $13.07 last year.

They claim that the across board town assessed valuations DECREASED from $1,446,020,203 to $1,436,859, 953 a drop of $9,160,250 – drop of just 0.63%.

But, the rate increase is 4.67%.

The town, or ‘municipal’ portion of the tax rate rose 16 cents; from $3.52 to $3.68.

The school portion went up 45 cents; from $5.57 to $6.02.

The State portion just went up a penny, balanced out by the county portion going down a penny.

Wow. My taxes have gone up quite a bit. And this is supposedly the fiscally conservative Alton! Hhhmmm.
