This was the same reporter, a lapsed Catholic, who did a front page story on me 4 days after Benedict XVI announced his resignation on February 11, 2013.
Deviating from the mainline media that was ‘agonizing’ whether there will be a pope ahead of Easter (2013), I told him categorically that there will be a pope elected by March 18. He was skeptical. As an ex-Catholic he struggles that I am not a catholic and doing all this stuff. He said he will talk to me on the 18th to see how my prognostication worked out. Suffice to say I got that one right too! I called him last Thursday to remind him.
Hence this piece with the cute little jab that mine wasn’t scholarly work. Cracked me up. Love it when reporters try to pontificate. But it is OK. The book is done. The book will remain as a reference for the 2013 election for centuries to come. That is a the neat thing about writing pope books. They have a long shelf life.
