This time the Mirror. I was never a reader of 'The Mirror'. I was a 'Daily Mail', 'Sun' (of course) and Broadsheet reader. But, this is a decent article. Click.

That THE Queen (and as far as I am now concerned there is really only one) was crowned in June 1953 is something that I have ‘always’ known. It was the year of my Birth, though the coronation did not wait for me. I also, being the Everest buff, know that the first KNOWN ascent of Everest took place just prior to the coronation — the British-led, Commonwealth-heavy team wanting to honor the new Queen. So, the 60th anniversary of the Tenzing-Hillary ascent always comes a few days ahead — as we celebrated.

I am a born-again Royalist. In my ‘youth’ I really didn’t see a need for the Royals. But, I have, with age, become a huge fan of THIS Queen. She is a treasure. Can’t say the same about all the Royals, but this Queen, indubitably, stands alone. I, like millions of others, will be sad to see her go. She has been my Queen all my life!

Happy Anniversary.

  1. WHY THE REMEMBRANCE POPPY IN COMMONWEALTH, not USA

We were raised along her and her sister, ‘the Little Princesses’, over in the UK us out here in the Dominion of Canada, and went through the war with our kilted father and others serving overseas. The King who’d suddenly had the unexpected job thrust on him in 1936 Year of the 3 Kings. Father George V dies, brother Edward VII quits, and suddenly little Elizabeth is the next in line
to the throne aged 10. She has been a rock and the world will feel it when this woman is gone. It is sad that media have spent much time denigrated her eldest son who as a toddler also was surprised to find his life was laid out for him, to await the death of his mother..Even as a child he suffered bullying media jokes were made about his ears, for heaven’s sake ! [Anyone pick on Mr. Obama for his?] The hyped, ill-fated pairing with immature Diana Spencer, did a lot of damage to the ‘First family’ and now his wife is insulted regularly even in the US, but she kept her Coronation pledge, to be of service to her peoples all her life.
Glad you are back in the fold, and appreciate steadfastness, just like her parents showed.
Wonder how long it’s going to take media to stop referring to the wife of his son and heir William by her maiden surname ?? Maybe if/when her
husband get promoted to Prince of Wales?
Queen of Canada title Coronation year, also Queen of Australia, of New Zealand and other outreaches of the Colonial era. What relationship has she to your birth place.
PS – remember she’s not just ‘Queen of England” – that stopped centuries ago.
Re Tenzing – what did his country do for him, while Britain was heaping honors on the man from Down Under ?
TV film was flown over from London as I recall it, it was not live as things can be today.

I was hoping I would hear from you. I knew that you like me would appreciate the significance. The Tenzing ‘saga’ is complicated. Hillary, though a great man, didn’t help MUCH to begin with. Ego, I guess. I heard (I am sure) that ’20 years’ ago be begrudgingly admitted, or maybe confessed, that Tenzing was leading BUT he stepped before the very top and that they both made the last step together. More later. Haven’t been home much this weekend. Out most of the day too. Happens in the Summer — especially when you have two young kids and two dogs. I have NOT forgotten YOUR posts. I am maxed out again. All the best. Cheers, Anura
