At my Comet ISON presentation at the ‘Taylor Community’, in Laconia, on Monday night, I met a lady, who was not a Taylor-resident, who was an expert on the U.S. VFW Poppy program. She had even sold a few thousand dollars worth of poppies in her time.
She told me all about the ‘Buddy Poppy‘ and the politics in and around it. She then told me about the ‘Poppy Puppy‘. As soon as she said it, I knew I had to have a ‘Poppy Puppy‘.
As soon as I got home I jumped on eBay. Found the above. As you can see it was listed for $9 (which I could JUST about afford) BUT also said ‘Make Offer‘. I am from Asia. Bargaining is in the blood. So just for the sport I offered $6. It was turned down. Again, I would have gladly paid $9 + $4.50 shipping. But, I countered with $7.50. They accepted. I paid. They haven’t shipped it as yet.
The kids are all excited. They want it. Heck no. It will go on one of my collection shelves.
I have received some flack that I am buying this memorabilia tack. I don’t give a damn. I am a collector and historian. My goal is to collect as much of this stuff, that I can afford, for posterity. I don’t give a rat’s arse as to the political correctness of a ‘Poppy Puppy‘. What matters is that they were made and sold. Then, if it is in my price range, I can and should get one and keep it. So there.
