It is 12:34 am, Tuesday, February 4, 2014
in Colombo, Sri Lanka (née Ceylon) when I started to write this.

I checked Google.lk.

No Doodle — at least not as yet
(though I think midnight is the usual start time).

Can confirm, categorically, NO Google Doodle in 2014.

Just this screen with the Sinhalese and Tamil options.

I can’t say I am 100% surprised.
They do do new Independence Day Google Doodles
for countries such as India, Latvia, Mexico etc.

Guess Sri Lanka isn’t that important as yet.

Maybe I will remind them next year.

Happy Independence Day.

Click to access PDF at their ‘myacs’ URL. I took this screenshot today. I downloaded the PDF to keep as a souvenir.

What is funny is that somebody actually highlighted it in yellow BUT still forgot to fix it.

It would be funny if it wasn’t so sad and representative.

I had actually spotted this weeks ago … didn’t surprise me.

I remembered this last week when I commented on how devoid the ACS Website is of images. Looks like it was designed on a manual typewriter.

Well another example of a missing image — which reflects badly on the image of the school.

If a kid did this on one of their projects they would get marked down.

Wonder where the Superintendent is? Must have timed out again. Oh, he screwed up on his e-mail again. Totally compromised another Superintendent! Threw the guy right under the bus! Wow.

This is not funny. Far from it. It even warrants a Whiskey, Tango, Fox’.

The gods (and that definitely is with a small ‘g’) must be angry or maybe just trying to be cute.

Two years in a row?

We couldn’t make it down last year because there was a major snow storm.
First time we had been precluded from going in about 4 or 5 years.

Again … this year.

I did hear, in passing, on TV, that the snow might start in the afternoon.
If so I will brave it though Deanna will not be amused.
Like 96% of the storms we get it will be from the south, southwest or west.

If we get an early start, and that is totally contingent on my ability to rouse myself from bed,
we could get there by 9 am. Done with Dim Sum by 11 am. Catch some parades and fire crackers …

Leave by 2 pm. Beat the snow home.

I am trying, as explained yesterday, to put together as much
of a collection of

Ceylon Independence Day
memorabilia here on this blog.

1967 was my last year in Ceylon.
I left on August 27, 1967
and since then have not spent much time at all in
Ceylon/Sri Lanka.

I became a British citizen on
September 27, 1982
having lived in Britain since
August 1969.

I do not remember this 1967 Independence Day Parade.

That bothers me. I know it is old age.

Lord Louis Mountbatten is in my personal pantheon of heroes
alongside Mandela, Churchill, Gandhi, Gagarin, Lincoln, Grant, Thatcher et. al.

C’est la vie.

Happy Independence Day.
