I have a lot of respect for Frontline and PBS. They invariably do good, if not outstanding, work. The “Secrets of the Vatican” is no exception. I DVRed it last night and this morning watched a few minutes. Judging from the opening ‘teaser’ they appear to be hitting all of the germane hot buttons (and as somebody who watches what happens at the Vatican on a daily basis, I do know what is relevant and what is ‘fluff’, even if I say so myself).
From the little bit that I saw, I was hooked. It seems right on the mark. Just wanted to give you a heads up. It appears that it is available on via PBS online. Here is the link: http://to.pbs.org/1fkZvZC.
That there were two semi-related ‘announcements’ today, one by “Gorgeous George”, Georg Gäenswein, the ex-pope’s mole in the new pope’s household and the other by ex-pope Ratzinger himself — both related to why the ex-pope became ex-pope, seems coincidental. I think they were prompted by the Frontline documentary, the Vatican always paying very close attention to what is said on U.S. documentaries about the popes.
