liar_liar_pants_on_fireI just got scammed and scammed bad, albeit for $14.99, by Cisco, or to be precise Linksys.

They lied to me, 3 times, on a recorded line and then scammed me — and even worse REFUSED to refund the $14.99 they scammed from me.

Kind of sad. I have done a lot of consulting work for Cisco. I have met John Mogridge and once got a letter from him c. 1997 thanking me for all my service to Cisco. Chambers knew me and we have spoken a number of times. Don Listwin, their legendary SVP of Marketing wrote a Foreword for one of my books. I still have, an expired, Cisco badge and I have even had and exercised Cisco employee stock options. So to be scammed by Cisco hurts a bit. Like being scammed by family (and a few that know me will be sniggering by now).

My Cisco Linksys RE-1000 Wireless-N Range Extender (that I bough refurbished from Amazon last August) finally died. It used to drop the Wi-Fi connection on a regular basis but I was always able to ‘refresh’ it just by cycling power. Well that stopped working last night. Just could not get a steady blue light. Today I tried to use the CD and then an Ethernet connection to reset it — and yes, yes, I hit the reset button etc.

I then called this 877-959-7467 number and gave them my serial number. Told me that I was out of warranty. That was true. Only had 90 days as far as I recall.

He tried to help me but eventually said that my RE-1000 was FRIED — most likely during a power failure.

My option was to buy another one. I decided to upgrade. Said I would buy an RE-2000 for $79.xx. More expensive than from Amazon BUT I was willing to give him my business. I am like that.

He then said that I can have a full year of FULL, telephone support for ALL my Linksys products, including the Linksys EA3500 I already have for $5. Yes. $5.

I got him to confirm that TWICE — on a recorded line.

He confirmed $5.

When my invoice came he had charged me $19.99 for it.

Yes, $19.99.

He confirmed $5 twice, on a recorded line and I asked him again, indirectly, a 3rd time at the end of the call.

He lied. Liar, liar pants on fire.

I called back. I was kept on hold, twice, for a total of 40 minutes.

They said that they made a mistake. $5 was IF I had bought a router. I hadn’t. RE-2000 a range extender.

$19.99 for non-routers. They will NOT give me the $14.99 difference.

Liar, liar pants on fire.

I can either cancel the whole order or live with it.

Liar, liar pants on fire.

It must be hard times at Cisco.

Doesn’t matter. After 12 years I am yet again a Cisco stockholder. I don’t have the 10,000 I once had through stock options but I have more than 100. I use it to write options. So I will get this money back.

But, a HEADS UP.

Linksys sales will LIE to YOU.

Liar, liar pants on fire.

IF somebody wants to check here is my linksys order number, placed today, around 4pm Eastern: 29678575.
