Morgan Spurlock raised this question, with the BEST of intentions, in his CNN, “Inside Man” show — a couple of weeks ago in ‘The Book of Morgan‘ episode on religion.

He did not mean it in a derogatory way in any sense. Just the opposite in reality. He was questioning a Christian Megachurch pastor as to whether he believes that non-Christian go to heaven. It was in this context that he asked this pastor: Do you believe that Gandhi is in heaven?” [This pastor didn’t, though he didn’t say so explicitly.]

I only got to watch this episode over the last few days.

This question about Gandhi gave me pause.

I had never thought about Gandhi in heaven — probably because I refuse to think about the afterlife. That got me thinking. I have no idea as to the Hindu beliefs about heaven. That is bad. I have had a lot of exposure to Hinduism but I know less about it than I do Catholicism (and I was never a Catholic).

I kind of had this notion that Hinduism must, like Buddhism, have a strong tradition of reincarnation given that Buddha was a Hindu by birth and basically co-opted many of the Hindu beliefs.

So I had a quick look yesterday. Wow. Hinduism has a very complex protocol for the afterlife. I didn’t even get to scratch the surface. Wow.

What I did manage to glean is that Hinduism, like Buddhism, does have the notion of ‘Nirvana‘ — essentially the end to the rebirth cycle. I think it is called ‘Moksha‘ (I could be wrong).

So …

But I also found that Hinduism also subscribes to a notion of a heaven.

So …

I would think, and I could be very wrong, that Mahatma Gandhi would qualify for Nirvana (or ‘Moksha’).
If so he would not be in heaven.

Others may disagree. They may say he is in heaven.

I have no idea.

BUT one thing I am sure: the Hindu heaven is not the same as the Christian heaven!

So Morgan Spurlock really hadn’t thought that question out fully.

supersizemeThat, alas, is the one flaw with his shows. We like Morgan. We have followed him every since he did his groundbreaking ‘Super Size Me‘ movie. We don’t watch all his shows, but probably do watch 60%. I invariably find that he just doesn’t cover the last, vital 10% in his exposés. He gets tantalizingly close then pulls back … I find that frustrating. I want that last 10% exposed. This was most apparent when he did the “Inside Man” episode on illegal immigration. He showed and told us a LOT. But then he pulled back … leaving me gasping …. ‘but, but, but … you never finished’

This as with the other posts about the gratuities and changing reservations is just to give you a heads up prior to you getting to Disney so as to minimize the number of surprises when you get there.

It is spelled out clearly in the Disney brochure but it is easy to overlook its true significance until you are there clutching a mug. The refillable mugs you get with the Dining Plan can ONLY be used in hotels. In other words you can’t use those mugs within the parks. That is the catch.

I guess that that caveat didn’t register with me.

Not that it really matters. It is not an option on the Dining Plan. If it was I would have been a bit miffed. It is but a feature of the plan. So these RESORT refillable mugs only come in handy if you spend a lot of time at the hotel rather than at parks or dining. With this dining plan you get refillable drinks (non-alcoholic) during meals. So if you plan to spend a day or two around the pool these mugs will sure come in handy. Wasn’t much use for us since we only spent about 4 hours in total in or around the pool.

So just a heads up in case it helps.

Linksys (Belkin) RE2000 Range Extender — Pretty Useless On The Wi-Fi Front BUT Makes A Great Little Space Heater!

Cisco Linksys RE1000 -- piece of junk getting sledgehammer treatment.

Linksys RE1000 gets the treatment it deserves. I pulverize it with a heavy sledgehammer. It proved to be a piece of junk.

The Linksys RE2000 might be a dual-band (two frequency) Range Extender, whereas the Linksys RE1000 is single band, BUT it is really no better, in terms of MAINTAINING a sustained Wi-Fi connection with your Wi-Fi router than the RE1000.

It works, not great (i.e., signal reception from the router is poor and the signal propagation is even worse), BUT like the damn RE1000 you have to reset it, i.e., recycle power, quite often!

Appears to be a known problem. Check the Amazon comments. Plus, there is now a WARNING on the Amazon page! Amazon is no longer shipping the RE2000.

When you recycle power on the RE2000 it takes a lifetime and a half to  reset. We are talking minutes — easily twice as long as the RE1000 did.

It appeared to degrade my Wi-Fi signal across the house.

Bottom Line: Do NOT buy a RE2000 if you want it as a Wi-Fi Range Extender.

The damn thing though runs so HOT that I am surprised it didn’t glow. I was worried that it was a fire hazard!

But, if you want a $70 space heater you might want to consider it — but don’t connect it to your Wi-Fi because it will degrade the signal.

Do NOT, whatever you do, BUY anything directly from Linksys.

If you can, curb the impulse to buy any Linksys product.

As the posts above will explain, I bought this RE2000 directly from Linksys (even though it was more expensive than at Amazon) BECAUSE (as an ex-salesman myself) I wanted to be nice to the Linksys sales person and help them meet quota and possibly earn some commission.

He lied to me. Outright lied.

I had to seek assistance from the Office of John Chambers, CEO of Cisco, to get my money back on that!

When I ran into the RE2000 issues I had a chat session with Linksys support. They REFUSED to let me RETURN the product.

Told me that Linksys does not do returns — just replacements!

IF I had got it from Amazon a return would have just required a mouse click. No questions. No hassle.

Linksys is NO LONGER owned by Cisco.

That could be the problem.

To get an RMA for this damn RE2000 I had to again contact the Office of John Chambers.

They are wonderful.

I only got this RMA because of Cisco and John Chambers.

That is crazy.

Do NOT, I stress, DO NOT, buy Linksys.

I am now going to try out NetGear. It would be impossible for them to be any worse than Linksys.
