Folks who consider themselves as ‘real’ Buddhists because they were born into Buddhist families (as opposed to Western ‘we are just in it for the meditation‘ Buddhists), especially in places like Sri Lanka and Burma (or whatever they call themselves now) have become so virulently political, rabidly intolerant and pitifully insecure that they make medieval Crusaders who believed that it was “God’s Will” look like pacifists.

Yes, as an ex-Sri Lankan Buddhist I find the current intolerance of other religions and the overt involvement in politics very unsavory. I am glad that I am not a Buddhist. I would be ashamed if I was at what is going on in Sri Lanka in the name of Buddhism.
