I had no idea of this till last night. I had not heard anything about it. I had assumed that moose were doing fine — because the last I heard people could still win a lottery to get moose hunting permits.
Then last night, on the way back from the Barbershop Concert at Weirs Beach, who has devoted nearly all of his adult life to conservation, told us about his fears for the moose population in NE! I was shocked. I have never seen a moose! Deanna, who has lived and worked in rural, northern N.H. and Maine, has seen hundreds. Devanee has seen a ‘few’ in Maine. But not so Teischan and I. So Deanna and Devanee make fun of us that we haven’t seen a moose. I might have seen one, late at night, on Route 28 this last winter. But, it was very fleeting. It was big and I had to yank the wheel to miss it. But, it also could have been a large deer. I, the driver, was the only one awake in the SUV at the time. Everybody woke up when they felt me serve … but it was too late to see what I missed hitting.
