The schedule for the 2014 ‘Highland Games‘ at Loon, N.H., September 19 — 21, 2014, is now available.
They, of course, do NOT have a “Glengarry Bhoys” & “The Brigadoons” together “Dream Ticket” event. That would have been way too creative for their tired, Scotch-addled gray-matter.
But, at least they had the sense to finish off Saturday (at least at the main venue) with the Bhoys at 4:15pm. That could turn out to be a BLAST. IF the Bhoys are anything like what they used to be they will play well past the measly 35 minutes allocated to the bands. They will do what they can to please the crowds. With luck, others like the Brigadoons might wander in and join them. Albannach may be tempted because the Bhoys would definitely give them a filip.
They do not have the Brigadoons playing even ONCE in the Concert Tent. Sad and I think insulting. Brigadoons have done yeoman duty to the Highland Games and they are beloved. They can still pack the Concert Tent.
To me, albeit to my by now jaundiced eyes, with the exception of the incomparable Glengarry Bhoys this yet again is insipid deja vu served up cold. But, unlike last year when we decided to boycott the Games (after 16 years), we are going to go JUST because of the Bhoys and because I miss saying ‘Hi’ to the Brigadoons.
I will be keeping an eye on the Games and the weather — and I talk as one who has bravely weathered hurricanes and monsoons at the Games.
