In December, per the norm for New Hampshire, you pay the ACTUAL tax amount, i.e.,:  (latest assessed value of property/1,000)*13.85 – less the (estimated) payment made in July.

The July payment was based on the old 13.44 tax rate. So that alone ensures that the December payment will be higher.

Then as far as I know, but it was definitely the case with us, Alton in July 2014 did a Town-Wide Statistical Update of property value. Oh, of course, our property value went up though sale prices around here haven’t indicated any robust increases in house value. So that will increase the bill too — though I am sure there are those whose assessed value did go down.

Our increase in terms of the July 2014 and December 2014 payments is 6.2%. So just a heads up. Much will depend what happened to your property assessment. If you saw a sizeable drop you could end up paying less.

Not sure when the tax bills will go out. The tax rate was published last Wednesday so they could get the bills out this Tuesday — if they so wished. So they could arrive Wednesday! I could as ever be wrong BUT I think they have to get them out this week to ensure that taxes are collected in 2014 — given that I think (and again I could be wrong) that they have to give us 30 days to pay the bill. Not tomorrow but Monday next is December 1 per my calendar. If the bills arrive December 1 I think we have till Jan. 1, 2015 to pay it — THOUGH I will pay mine on December 31 to get the 2014 tax deduction.

Just trying to help. Happy Thanksgiving.

Dan & Dianne Monahan, August 7, 2014.

One of Devanee’s musical mentors, and our friend, Dan Monahan is an active member of the “Lakes Region Chordsmen” the local barbershop group that will be involved with making this 2015 revival jamboree a reality. He is also a board member of the “Chordsmen”. He had attended the meeting with the Alton Old Home Day committee on November 12, 2014 when it was agreed that the once beloved jamboree will return to Alton to coincide with Old Home Day 2015. Dan and his wife Dianne shared a ride with us to “Clearlakes Chorale” rehearsals the next day — and as such we got to hear the news that the jamboree was returning a full week ahead of it making the newspaper.

I promised Dan that I will try and pull together as much of the historic material that I can find about the jamboree on this blog — at least until the organisers get a chance to set up their own Web presence. So here we go. It wasn’t as easy as I had expected. Not many pictures on the Web (as yet). But stay tuned. I get a feeling that Deanna will be doing a lot of scanning of old photographs and newspaper clippings.
