Once we knew, for sure-sure, that the Fed was going to put an end to QE in October BOE, on paper, looked like a good play for some decent ‘high yield’ (in addition to the likes of BJBHX etc.) until we entered a new chapter of higher interest during the later part of 2015.

Well, of course, you have to make up your own mind but BOE, to my eyes, does not look healthy. The ETF price, after recovering from the October Fed meeting swoon, doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. The NAV too seems to be stagnating. Yes, there was the extraordinary, ad hoc double dividend in October. That was nice and made up for some of the drop in share value. But today on a hunch I happened to go and check where the distributions were coming from. The bottom chart. That was kind of scary and I was disquieted. No dividend income at all? How is that possible in 2014? I seem to trip over dividends all over the place. So how come BOE claims it hasn’t had any since Q3. Well that was a red flag for me. There are plenty of other options. So I have had it with BOE. Just thought I would let YOU know in case you were not aware that 100% of the current distributions is via ‘Return of Capital’.

Happy Holidays.

Well, as an ex-professional programmer & micro-coder at IBM
and somebody who taught programming at SNHU
(Southern New Hampshire University)
I can attest that this is not coding per se
but it still demonstrates the notion of creating
something on a computer with variables.

Neat.

Teischan liked it. Much more than I thought she would.
So Google got it right again.

Another “Code Day” is coming up.
This might be tied to that.

Enjoy.

This really is a sad and classic case of the ‘known devil‘ syndrome — as I also pointed out last year. I have been with Avast for a very, very long time. Last year I did quite a bit of research to see if i should switch and in the end ended up keeping them because they were MY ‘known devil‘. And for that I got instant grief.

This year I just did not have the time to do any research on alternatives and I will not switch unless I do my own research and due diligence. So I waited until I had just 24 hours left on my subscription before I renewed because in the past Avast has not tagged on the renewal to the days remaining on the prior subscription. Well I wasn’t doing to lose any days I had already paid for, so I waited till the 11th hour. Avast, shamefully, was VERY OBNOXIOUS about it. For weeks it had been sending me messages and plastering my screen with Popups demanding that I renew. On Tuesday morning, with still 24 hours remaining I got a totally UNETHICAL and probably illegal popup telling me that my protection has been DISABLED — though I am savvy enough to know, from looking at my task tray icon, that this was a bare faced lie.

I wish Avast wasn’t so obnoxious. Ages ago they used to be a really nice company. Now they are constantly in your face and I know that they monitor everything I do on my PC. I wish they were not so obtrusive. But yet again it is the ‘known devil‘ syndrome. At least with Avast, having had them for so long, I have a rough idea as to what they are up to. I can even tell from the sound my hard drive makes when they are updating their definitions.

My recommendation with Avast, as ever, is TURN OFF everything other than the most basic. See above.

Well I will try to keep you posted. All the best.

The Nor’easters“, consisting of Chuck Farrell, Al Hospers & Craig T. Bryan Jr., is a local New Hampshire band, with Chuck living, working and farming in Wolfeboro, N.H. Though our wives, who have similar names have known each other for a long time, I only got to meet Chuck (and his effervescent father, a committed, long, long time Caddy owner) this last Saturday. We are both ballet dads. We started talking about cars and two hours later, over lunch, at “Nolan’s Pub” (in Wolfeboro), we were talking about music and San Francisco. That is how I got to learn about the “The Nor’easters”. We had missed their performance at Cate Park this Summer because of a conflict with a “Great Waters” concert.

“The Nor’easters” sound like my type of group and I am going follow them and promote them on this blog. An interesting and obviously very talented trio. Their bass player Al Hospers toured with Blood Sweat and Tears in the 1980s. That is kind of neat given that BS&T, as you now know, will be the feature performance for “Great Waters” in 2015. So let me start by pointing you to the “The Nor’easters” followed by a Facebook page of some of their recent performances at the “Tumbledown Farms” in Brookfield, N.H. Obviously PLEASE click to access.
