I guess I always knew memorabilia was available. Hadn’t given it much thought. Saw a commercial on the ESPN coverage of the New Zealand v. South Africa Semi Final for the ICC auction items — match balls, coin used in the tosses, scorecards etc. Kind of knew that they would be expensive — but I was still surprised as to what folks are bidding for these. Yes, of course there will be some speculators and I hope at least a few are getting bought for individual players or country collections (e.g., museums).

That has got me thinking. The ICC didn’t allow the players to keep the balls. Yes, I know there are TWO (2) white match balls per game minimum. But the auction page is clear — says balls. Yes, I also know that there are spares. So is the ICC being cute? By that I mean that they are selling a bunch of balls that really were NOT in the game. Wouldn’t put it past them.

I see they have a 7″ ICC 2015 trophy miniature for sale. Might think about that.

Just wanted to give you all a heads up.
