Today, April 8, 2015, is beyond ONE FULL YEAR!

396 days.

Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

Amazing!

Doesn’t it blow your mind?

Lufthansa Germanwings crash has put the spotlight, back again, on pilot/co-pilot suicide.

Also the Maldive Islands, my contention from the start, is again gaining attention — as it must.

Very sad. Very bizarre. People, mainly governments, know much more than they are letting on.

A totally unexpected bonus of us getting a Roku 3 was that it got us, in unison, hooked on “Downton Abbey“. Yes, of course, being a Brit and a huge fan of PBS/NPR I knew of “Downton” — it is just that we had never watched it on PBS. Basically we had got out of the habit of watching much on PBS. Not sure why. When “Downton Abbey” first made an appearance, in the U.S, five years ago, the girls were, obviously, 5 years younger. They would not have appreciated it then — especially not Teischan at 4. Plus I didn’t want to get hooked onto a show which I had to record on a weekly basis — then wait for the next season etc.

With the Roku — and Amazon Prime — that problem was solved. When we were looking through Amazon (on the Roku) we discovered that all 5 seasons of “Downton” were available, as part of Prime, all neatly laid out — in a row. Talk about convenient. Better than having a DVD set (which Deanna’s sister does have). Within days of getting the Roku 3, in mid-February, I gave the very first episode a spin during our traditional family TV hour (from 6 to 7pm). Devanee was instantly hooked, as was Deanna. Teischan, 8 at the time, was a bit more skeptical. But we watched a couple more episode — mainly at Devanee’s insistence. Teischan then became hooked and is now the greatest fan, though to be fair we all look forward to it. But every night, around 5:40 pm Teischan tells me “lets watch Downton again tonight”. For the last 6 weeks or so, if we are at home at ‘family TV’, that is all we have watched. We are nearly done with Season 3! Two more seasons to go. We are already talking about life after Downton.

Not sure how or where we will be able to watch Season 6 — but cost is not going to be a factor. I will have to get hold of Season 6, as soon as it is available, ‘cost be damned’. Maybe it will be on PBS.

That NBC plans to do “The Gilded Age” set in the U.S. is a relief but we all have our reservations.

I have already decided that I am going to subscribe to Acorn, on the Roku, so we can watch “Upstairs/Downstairs”. I think the kids will like that now they have discovered the magic of British country houses.

So “The Gilded Age” is good news. Hope it comes to pass.

In 2002, I had bought a cheap “cute dogs” wall calendar. It contained a pithy observation for each day. I soon realized that they had compiled quite a good collection. Come year end, and January 1, 2003 was when Deanna and I got married, I decided to hold onto the calendar so that I can preserve its content. I have held onto it for 12 years. I always knew where it was. So what I am going to do is transcribe 10 to 20 sayings from it, as often as I can, until I capture all of the good ones. There are a few that are a tad mundane. But I suspect that there has to be at least 300 good ones. I will number them as I transcribe so that we can all keep track. I was going to do them randomly but if I do, I might miss some. So I will start from January and go through the months.

I cannot vouch for the veracity of these items. I do NOT have the time to check them. I am just transcribing them for posterity. So be WARNED. Check the facts IF you intend to use it. IF I do check any of them out, I will add annotations at the bottom.

I also do not see any copyright on the calendar. IF the copyright genuinely belongs to someone and they can prove it I will immediately and gladly take all of this down. I have no desire, whatsoever, to infringe on anybody’s copyright.

Enjoy.

I am pretty sure that they will crack this in a couple of years BUT for now all these goodies can ONLY be delivered within Sri Lanka. So, NO — you can’t have it delivered in the U.S., and more the shame. Yes, for one the prices would have to change, but all U.S. Sri Lankans (and I am not one) are filthy rich and money is never an issue. So I am surprised that Kapruka hasn’t extended this to include items shipped from Sri Lanka — or made in the U.S. Having food sent over could be an issue. But, all of this could be made in the U.S. — albeit for a price. Maybe I should do this!

IF you do KNOW him, PLEASE HELP!

Matter of life and death,
but more of the latter.

It is NOT for me. It is not even for anybody in the family. I am desperately trying to help out somebody I only know via this blog! I have never met her.

She is very, very ill. While we are are all dying, she is going to do so rather quickly IF she does NOT get ANOTHER heart valve ASAP.

She had an artificial heart valve inserted ‘2’ years ago. It started leaking a ‘few’ months ago. About a month ago it was determined, after 3 weeks of vacillation and needless distractions, that she MUST have a mechanical heart valve inserted to replace the leaking one. But since then NOTHING has happened. She is getting weaker by the day. Basically she is getting less blood getting pumped through her body every day.

She has a 2 year old! She is a single mother.

Most days she doesn’t have the energy to make the phone calls. I, on her behalf, at her request, tried for 40 minutes yesterday.

Wow. It was beyond a joke. Dartmouth Hitchcock take a bow.

That I am not a relative complicates matters though last night she had me added as a contact.

IF you have access to Dr. Scot H. Merrick PLEASE tell him to get one of his folks to contact me. IF this surgery is not done soon it is going to be too late! That is the problem.

So, IF you know this surgeon and have access to him, PLEASE help.

Yes, I have tried the 415 353 1606 number.

Seeing them all neatly lined up, in a grid, made me realize that I have owned 4 of these — actually 5 since I owned two Spitfire 1500s (one red and the other pageant blue (a colour that I hated with a passion). So it has been: two Spitfire 1500s, one TR7 (silver, 3rd but last to be built with UK registration MGM 327X), one orange Midget (in New Hampshire that I rescued from a neighbor (who kept on increasing the price AFTER I told him I would take it off his hands when he told me he would sell it to the first person who offered him $2,000)) and now the green MGB (though that will soon be Devanee’s (within the year I have been recently told).

IF you get an e-mail like the one above, possibly with different wording, WITH AN ATTACHMENT, do NOT — I repeat DO NOT — click on ANYTHING. Do not even look at the attachment. Make the sign of the cross with your fingers and back away.

Major scam. Citi knows about it. I called them. Your credit cards and accounts should be OK. Yes, the e-mail will contain VALID data. They probably got that from credit bureau.

This is sad, annoying and disturbing.

Oh. Please forward e-mail to abuse@chase.com

It definitely was NOT this blog. It was either: Pappas, All About Popes and Papacy or Papam. I had set these blogs up as complementary, auxiliary feeder blogs to my main popes-and-papacy blog.

7 years ago puts us at April 2008. I was just finishing my first pope book: “Popes and the Tale of Their Names”. I needed the blogs to get the word out and get people to know me in the pope-space. I started with TypePad but soon despaired. That is when I found WordPress. Well, the rest is history.

This blog came to be in 2009 BUT I didn’t start blogging on it, in earnest, until July 2012. So this blog is relatively young.

Wow. 7 years with WordPress. It has been good. I know WordPress and they know me. That they honored me recently by giving me WordAds was icing on the cake. I have, probably, 30 or more registered WordPress blogs.
