This was way ahead of schedule for the ‘low-carb‘ me. I miss the insulation, both in terms of heat and buoyancy.

Last year I did not venture into the water until June 30. So actually going swimming, in the Big Lake, Lake Winnipesaukee, in Alton Bay, on Sunday, June 14, 2015, was pretty gutsy for me.

Teischan, as is often coming the case, now that she is 9, was the instigator. The day before, Saturday, she insisted that we go down to ‘Halfmoon Lake‘, in Alton, to which we have Beach Rights, but had not ventured to this Summer. I put on my swim trunks but said that i doubted whether I would venture in. But she insisted that it was nice. I put my toe in. It was cold but not as cold as I had expected. So I thought I would brave it for a few minutes. Kind of funny. June 14 was SMACK within my guidelines from 20 years ago — first swim two weeks after (son) Matthew’s birthday. Well he was born May 28, 1992. So June 14 was Matthew birthday PLUS 16 days.

It was cold. Notice that there were no other adults in the water. I swam for a bit. It was good. Lake Winnipesaukee, compared to Halfmoon, where I do most of my swimming since 2007, has HEAVIER water. Yes, the water is noticeably more dense. Nothing wrong. Just more minerals. That makes it easier to swim.
