MetroCast Delivers 105 Mbps To Alton (N.H.); TDS Falters Then Goes Down!

by Anura Guruge

dahI would be able to appreciate the irony if it was not so frustrating and sad. I pay and get BOTH MetroCast and TDS Internet feeds to the house — mainly for redundancy but also to keep the Internet bandwidth we use for media streaming (read Roku) separate from that I use for ‘work’ (read ‘this’).

So today, for the first time, I have 105 Mbps, actually 107 Mbps, on my MetroCast feed — and I am delighted.

I am trying to watch the Australia vs. India 3rd ODI (on Sling via my Roku 3) when bloody TDS gives up the ghost. The bandwidth fluctuated like crazy for 10 minutes and then it went down for about 3 minutes.

MetroCast rocks, TDS sucks.

That sums it up. TDS has been REALLY bad in Alton over the last 4 months. 80% due to the guy in charge of TDS service in this area. To call him a dozer would be an insult to other dozers. He is that bad. I am THINKING of getting two MetroCast drops — i.e., feeds. It might be worth it.

TDS == Too Damn Slow!

With ‘speedtest.net’.

mc105gst22222

With ‘gstnetworks.net’, same technology as ‘speedtest.net’ BUT quicker and easier to run.

I being who I am started checking yesterday to see IF Metrocast has bumped up my speed from 75 Mbps to 105 Mbps.

Today it has. Getting close to 107 Mbps and 12 Mbps UPLOAD. I am delighted. This is great. WOW.

I am SO happy. The UPLOAD. 50% increase and that is wonderful for I since I do so many uploads — photos, images and documents (i.e., read ‘books‘).

Way Excessive Packaging By Amazon.

by Anura Guruge

Yes, I know that people have been complaining about this, vehemently, for years. I also know that UPS changed their pricing, within the last 18 months, to reflect VOLUME as well as weight to curb Amazon’s penchant for this type of grossly wasteful packaging.

This was crazy. One plastic bottle of fiber capsules. Nothing breakable. Yes, susceptible to some crushing but even that would not have been serious. Not sure how the packaging is done — meaning whether it is human or automated. But this has to STOP.

And now January 17, 2016.

This is not acceptable. I love WordPress.com, of course, but this drives me nuts.

Taken with my Sony RX100 Mk II
(for a change from my Panasonic Lumix FZ1000).
Straight out of the camera.

Refer to this post for image resolution details.
NO post-processing whatsoever.
Straight JPEGs from the camera.

Went to Rockland, Maine and thereabouts on Sunday, Jan. 17
for a quick visit with some of Deanna’s relatives.

We went to New York City & Philadelphia for a week
December 28, 2015 to January 3, 2016.
Appears I took 2,618 pictures with the Panasonic Lumix FZ1000
not counting those that I took with the Sony RX100 MkII and
the thousand or so taken by Deanna and Devanee with their cameras.

Over the next few weeks I will share some of these images with you.
