What is More Important: Good Friday or Easter Sunday?

It was doing the Jewish Purim one day apart from Good Friday post, yesterday, that got me thinking. With that post and the one I did last year about Passover being on the same weekend I used Good Friday as the key date (though I included Easter Sunday too).

Given my interest in religious history I can argue on either side of this. Yes, I know, understand and appreciate the basics. Crucifixion vs. Resurrection. The Passion, the suffering and redemption of sin vs. hope, eternal life (and the true basis of what makes Christianity, Christianity).

That Good Friday is not a Federal Holiday in the very Christian (60%++) U.S. always amazes me. Growing up in very Buddhist Ceylon we had BOTH Good Friday and Easter Monday off — thanks to the British/European influence.

I am glad that this question gets debated. Do YOU have an opinion or preference?

Wolfeboro, NH: Governor Wentworth Adult Education, Spring 2016 — I Am Down To Teach 2 Classes.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and read here.

They do not have it online (as yet). It will be in local papers this week.
[I will put it online shortly.]

In addition to my seminars — some of them up to 5 days long — I used to do a LOT of teaching. I taught 6 or 7 undergraduate and graduate courses at SNHU covering IT, Web design, Programming and Marketing! I also taught Web design at Laconia Adult Education.

Then I gave up basically to focus on my Pope books. Then around Christmas I saw Wolfeboro Adult Education advertising for somebody to teach Web design. So I e-mailed them. Once I told them my background they asked what else I could teach. That is how the astronomy class came about.

Whether I teach these classes or not will depend, of course, on enrollment. I do not know what the minimum is but I doubt whether they will run the classes unless they get at least 7 or 8 people signing up. I will keep you posted.

If you have ever wanted to learn Web creation design you should sign up. I will have you with a working Website by the end of the first class! I used to do that at Laconia and people would be stunned. And it is easier now than it was then.

Interesting Geography Test — By The Same Folks That Brought You Kinsey Sexuality Test.

by Anura Guruge

Click image to access test. Same folks who gave you the Kinsey Sexuality Test. I found that when I was ‘challenged’ to do this.

While the Kinsey Sexuality Test score did NOT surprise me in the slightest, that I came in the top 4% AMAZED me.

50 years ago, as a student in Ceylon, I excelled in geography. But the world, in so many ways, was much simpler then.

I know that my contemporary geography is BAD though I do (still) read the ‘National Geographic‘, every month from cover-to-cover — and that is not just to spot the topless tribal women.

Kinsey Sexulaity Scale Test Says I Am “Straight As An Arrow”.

I wasn’t actually sure what I was being tested for. This score, however, probably is no surprise to many, if any. One of my cousins (who is not straight) once described me as: “your problem is that you are so overtly hetrosexual”. Yup, and I don’t deny that. Well all I can say is that the test must be pretty good.

I wrote about Kinsey quite a bit in my Orgasm book. Check it out.

2016: Easter Good Friday And Jewish Purim One Day Apart. Very Rare.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE. My creation so I can claim copyright.

Last year, i.e., 2015, we had Easter and Jewish Passover fall on the same weekend. The first full day of Passover cannot happen on a Friday. So you can never have the first day of Passover on Good Friday. But as was the case last year you can have the start of Passover, at sunset, taking place on Good Friday. Passover and Good Friday being a day apart happens quite often — as you can see from the table. And this makes sense since these two ‘Holy Days’ were once related.

Purim occurring near Easter is more rare — though Purim can fall on Good Friday as it did in 2005 & 2008.

Passover alway occurs 30 days after Purim. So you can see why Purim doesn’t occur that often close to Easter. As to the big fluctuations. Mainly to do with the fact the Jewish calendar, by and large, is Lunar-based.
