New Hampshire ‘Interest and Dividends Tax’ (I&D) — Easiest Way To Calculate Is To Use e-file NH.

by Anura Guruge

Click image to access the relevant NH State e-file option.

logo-efileI saw this morning, on this blogs ‘search strings’, that somebody wanted to know how to calculate New Hampshire ‘Interest and Dividends Tax‘ (I&D).

IF you, like I, are one of the ‘chosen’ that have to pay this tax it is rather easy to calculate. 5% of ALL interest and dividends declared on your IRS 1040 after a $4,800 exemptions for marrieds or $2,400 for singles. There are other exceptions too if you are disabled, blind etc.

But the quickest and easiest way to do is to use the FREE New Hampshire e-file option available from the N.H. State, i.e., nh.gov, Website. Go to RESIDENTS >> >> TAXES >> >> INTEREST & DIVIDENDS TAX. Click on ‘tax’ and look for the e-file logo (as shown here).

Just bang in your social, give them your e-mail, create a 4-digit PIN and Bob is your uncle. You are ready to rock and rumble. Very easy to use. Does the calculations for you and it is e-file. One-stop shopping. I have successfully used NH e-file for years. On Tuesday I breezed through with my 2015 filing in less than 3 minutes. Start to finish. Done. Getting a refund!

So go for it. Don’t even THINK of anything else. SMILE.

DISH TV Without CNBC & MSNBC Will Be Pretty Useless To ME!

by Anura Guruge

Click image to access original. Google for MORE.

I just happened to see this, on DISH (ironically), while watching MSNBC earlier this morning.

From what I see ‘Boston’ is not listed as an impacted market … BUT who knows.

Yes, we have all seen these DISH/DirecTV blackout threats.

But DISH without CNBC, in particular, will be useless to I. I wake up, each morning, to CNBC on my TV. I watch is for over an hour.

So I am going to stay on top of this. This could be a bummer.

Do Not Read Too Much Into Pope Francis’ So Called ‘Firing’ Of U.S. Nuncio, Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò.

by Anura Guruge

Click to read original at ‘Latin Times’.

From my “Pope Francis’ U.S. Visit — 2015” book. Click to ENLARGE and read here. Use link below to have a look at the book.

Click here to check out, my still relevant,
“Pope Francis’ U.S. Visit — 2015: A Guide For The Curious”.

To be honest I would NOT read too much into this so called ‘firing’. The pope, as I keep on pointing out, is not ‘gay friendly’ despite his famous ‘who am I to judge‘ remark.

Nuncios, like Ambassadors, do get replaced on a regular basis ESPECIALLY those appointed to important countries by PRIOR heads — in the case of Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò by arch-conservative Pope Benedict XVI. Pope Francis, quite rightly, wants somebody of his choice in D.C. Perfectly normal. So I wouldn’t get too excited.

Rumored Panasonic Lumix LX200 Unlikely To Offer 20MP & Needs A Lens Tweak To Make It Special.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and read here. From ‘Daily Camera News’. See link below.

Click to read whole story from ‘Daily Camera News‘.

The inevitable rumors of a Panasonic Lumix LX200 — the successor to the widely popular Lumix LX100 (which I own) — have surfaced again today, with a vengeance.

The LX100, announced in September 2014, is now getting old in the tooth and Panasonic no doubts knows that the LX100 owner base, including I, will happily cough up $900 for the follow-on, if it is the LX200.

But the rumored specs. don’t reflect reality from the PERSPECTIVE of one that owns and uses, near daily, a Lumix LX100.

The sensor more than likely will be a micro four thirds 20 megapixel from Sony. OK. But that doesn’t mean the LX200 will be a 20MP camera IF Panasonic perseveres with its ‘cropping’ approach. The LX100 has a 16MP sensor but the MOST you get is 12.7MP at the 3:2 aspect ratio. IF the LX200 follows suit the most we will get, at 3:2, is 15.2MP.

SO STOP TALKING 20MP unless we know what the crop is going to be. Yes, of course, Panasonic could OEM a 26MP sensor and then, with that crop, we could get 20MP.

Panasonic’s ‘Depth of Defocus‘ (DFD) autofocus would be nice BUT if you have a LX100 you will know that autofocus is not half bad. Plus I use Manual Focus at least 50% of the time. Isn’t that the point of owning a ‘real’ camera like the LX100?

Larger OLED viewfinder. Yep, that would be nice, BUT not a huge game changer. The electronic viewfinder on the LX100 isn’t great BUT it isn’t bad either.

Of course higher ISO will be nice BUT with a micro four thirds what price will we pay in terms of noise?

Built-in ND filter? Not a biggie for I and as such NOT a game changer for I.

Built-in flash. I just had a look at my LX100. Not sure WHERE they could put one WITHOUT making the body bigger and bulkier and the current LX100 is about as BIG as I am willing to contend.

What would be really nice is more zoom and more SPEED. SMILE. Might be hard to do. But even another 25mm would help. That would be a biggie.

So the bottom line is let’s be realistic. Folks who are propagating the rumors (and I THANK them for it) aren’t LX100 aficionados and as such are not thinking things through

But I will most likely upgrade to a LX200 the minute it is available. Deanna has already said, knowing my propensity to get new cameras every few months, that she will have the LX100. That is good. I won’t have to sell it and it will still be around. I do like the LX100. SMILE.

My Panasonic Lumix LX100.

IRS Form 8962, ‘Premium Tax Credit (PTC)’ — Do NOT Roundup Your Numbers, Specially On Line 5.

by Anura Guruge

The new Form 8962, that came to be with the 2014 Tax Returns, is probably the most pernicious feature of ObamaCare, a.k.a. Affordable Care Act (ACA) — and that takes some doing.

IF you have the misfortune of having to file one you will understand. Yes, I assume many of you rely on a Tax Preparer to do your taxes, including Form 8962. I have to assume that they must charge you more for doing it because it is not an easy form. It makes all the other common forms, Schedule D or Schedule C, seems TRIVIAL in comparison.

That the INSTRUCTIONS for Form 8962 runs to 18 pages is a clue that this is convoluted and complicated.

One of the stupidest things in this form is that it does NOT like you rounding up your percentage number when you are completing Line 5. Yes, it says so in the instructions BUT that is easy to miss.

IF you round up and say put .197 instead of .196 because the number you got from the division was .19689 you will be SCREWED! I kid you not. (And I made up those numbers to just serve as an example. I am not going to tell you mine. SMILE.)

I had my Free Fillable Form Electronic Filing REJECTED by the IRS because of that ONE Line 5 rounding up! Wow.

Took me about 10 minutes to work out what they were complaining about. Then, on reading the instructions, even more carefully, so it. DO NOT ROUND. I am so used to rounding up.

To be fair to the IRS it makes a difference. It, of course, depends on your numbers BUT I was surprised that in our case that rounding came to $20 — in OUR favor. So that is why the IRS balked. They wanted me to get it right.

So heads up. IF you are doing Form 8962 be careful rounding.

Willow TV (Cricket) Surprisingly Very Professional, Courteous and Prompt.

by Anura Guruge

Trying to watch the 2016 ICC World Twenty20, #ICCWT20, from India, on Sling TV on our Roku 3 has been beyond bloody painful. Sling TV goes out of their frigging way to make sure that the Program Guide is out-of-bloody-synch. It is more or less 100% that what it says on the Program Guide is NOT what you will see if you click on the frigging thing. It is atrocious. Yes, if you have the TIME to sit there all day working out where each match is then you will do fine. Well I don’t have the time. I allocate about 30 minutes while having lunch and 45 minutes around 10:15 pm to watch cricket. I don’t have the time to mess with Sling’s friggin messed up Program Guide.

I was so fed up by last Saturday that I decided to subscribe to Willow directly — now that THEY claim to support Roku — and YET again (maybe for the 3rd time in a year) ditch bloody Sling TV. Willow does not give you the option to PREVIEW the channel. You need to first subscribe BEFORE you get to see it. Well I did.

I first thought I had done something WRONG. There was NO cricket! Nothing. NADA. Blank screen. I kid you not.

Right now Willow on Roku only shows LIVE matches.
That is IT. Get that. Live matches only.

No highlights. No replays.

I was devastated. That is worse that Sling TV — and that is saying something!

Willow also doesn’t have telephone support or Live Chat during hours that work for me.

So I just sent them 4 or 5 e-mails — all surprisingly polite. I was girding my loins for what I thought was going to be an ugly battle.

NOPE. Willow support was very professional!

They apologized for their poor service on Roku and refunded my payment, to my credit card, within 24 hours. Yes, within 24 hours. That is AMAZING. That is impressive.

So good customer service.

Shame that they ONLY show live matches on Roku.

If I got Apple TV I could get live, replays and highlights. Maybe I should. Anything to get away from bloody Sling TV.

Sling’s coverage of the ICC World Twenty20, 2016, sucks.

They make NO ATTEMPT to reflect what matches are being shown. Total frigging crap shoot.
