As some of us are PAINFULLY aware Internet service by TDS in the Alton, New Hampshire area has been a JOKE for the last year or more.
Yes, they have been promising 1 Gigabit Internet for over a year but I have yet to see it.
As far as I am concerned TDS is but a poor and very bad JOKE. I am staying with MetroCast 105 Mbps Broadband Internet service. It might be 10x times slower than 1 Gigabit BUT it is stable, up 98% of the time and the bandwidth rarely if ever fluctuates. I think we all know that that will not be the case with TDS. I would hate to rely on Internet, TV and voice on TDS.
I did way back in October 2014 comment on AnBANG’s purchase of this iconic New York landmark.
It is still operated by Hilton and promoted as such BUT it is Chinese owned. And that appears to have consequences.
I heard that U.S. Presidents will no longer stay at the Waldorf Astoria because of spying concerns, on CNBC, relative to the ongoing attempts by Anbang to acquire the ‘Starwood Hotels‘. There is concern that senior U.S. officials might have to avoid these hotels too if they are acquired by the Chinese! Wow.
The media, alas, continues to misrepresent exactly what the issue was to begin with and how and what the FBI (and Israeli ‘Cellebrite’) did to get to the encrypted data.
They did NOT break encryption.
That is pretty hard to do.
What they did was DISABLE the ‘Wrong Password’
You have all seen it. Enter the wrong password to say an online bank or credit card account three times and you are LOCKED OUT. You have to call in and start providing valid credentials and explanations. Well what the FBI and Cellebrite did was DISABLE this wrong password retry safeguard. Then they could keep on trying MILLIONS of passwords a second until they eventually got the one that unlocked the data.
NOT GOOD NEWS.
That a 3rd party was able to do this disabling is downright bloody scary.

Durham, Maine from Google Maps — relative to Portland, Freeport, Brunswick, Bath & Lewiston. Not on the coast or by any BIG lakes. Also not that far north from Maine’s southern border. There is a LOT of Maine above this area.
