Ever since we got Braxton in September 2013 we have AGAIN needed dog gates, either side of the kitchen/dining area, to keep him from getting into things that he shouldn’t have. We had a few spare gates from when Teischan was a baby and we recycled those as much as possible. But the last one finally broke and we were without a gate for a week or so. Didn’t need anything elaborate. Braxton, himself, can’t get over or through much. Maya, though big, is very docile and would not try to jump over a gate. So we could have a gate that was fairly low and just step over it. So I decided to just go ahead and build one using material we had lying around.
Deanna made the middle using screen door mesh that we had and some leftover material. I cut two pieces of wood that I had lying around to size. Used felt surface protectors to get the tension I needed. Then I happened to be at the hardware store and bought a rubber tip for canes (at $1.84 for two). Used one to get even more tension. Had it up for two days. hasn’t fallen yet and nobody has tripped over it. Dogs have not bothered to even test it. They get the message. So I am pretty happy. You too could build one just like this. Very basic and simple.
