As I explained in this “First Pictures with Nikon D500” post the supposedly fully-charged battery in my rented D500 died after I had formatted a SD card, checked some menu options and took 14 pictures. That is a pretty short battery life for any camera.

The response I got when I called up “LensRental“, my rental company, was quite illuminating. I spoke with a Tech who immediately said that there were SOME known battery issues with the Nikon D500. They immediately went about shipping out a new battery (and a charger) that is supposedly arriving Saturday via USPS Priority Mail. [We will wait and see.] I had not seen any references to this D500 battery issue in my research.

But I started Googling while still on the phone with the Tech — and you can do the same.

The above “DPReview” post (as ever) said everything of import that I needed to know. Sure enough I had an EN-EL15 Li-ion01‘ battery as opposed to an ‘Li-ion20‘. Hhmmm.

So just letting you know. Check your battery.
