First day of school on a Friday?
Unless they have school on Saturday
that makes little sense.
(Yes, I had school on Saturday
in England!)

Our local High School started yesterday,
a Thursday. That didn’t make much sense.
But, c’est la vie.

A sobering day, at least for I. 78-years seems ‘so long ago’, but also ‘not that long ago’. Just 14-years before I was born.

Scary for those who thought the factors that ignited WW II had been extinguished forever.

Yes, we still have a few WW II veterans around. If you are lucky enough to meet one today remind them of this sombre anniversary.

Kind of interesting that this terrible war ended 6 years AND 1 DAY later; Started on September 1, ended September 2.

So tomorrow will be 72-years since the ending of WW II.

For those not that familiar with the history of WW II, it started with the German invasion of poor Poland.

Quickest Route To ‘Acadia’, Maine From New Hampshire, Boston & All Points South.

by Anura Guruge

The quickest way, by 30 – 45 minutes is to STAY on I-95 all the way to Bangor and then take (the new) 395 and Route 1a to Ellsworth (the Gateway to Acadia)

It is longer, BUT quicker because you are on I-95 doing “65” mph.

It is not the MOST scenic. If you have the time and want to enjoy the scenery, including the quite magnificent ‘Penobscot Narrows Bridge‘, turn off I-95 in Augusta (Maine) and take Routes 202, 3 and 1. Route 1, obviously, is iconic and there is always a lot to see. But, you are averaging 45 mph, at best.

We have been to Acadia 8 times since 2013. We always too the scenic route. I would often question locals about it. They would say there wasn’t much of a difference and as such it was worth taking the scenic route.

Well in June of this year, coming back from our latest visit, I decided to give the Bangor route a try. Wow, it was noticeably quick. Pretty boring driving on I-95, BUT Route 1a is quite pretty.

I think in future I will most likely take the faster route.

Hope this helps and quells the debate as to the faster route once and for all. P.S., Google recommends the Bangor route!

Congratulations To Bangladesh On Their Historic Test Match Win Over Australia — In Dhaka.

What a ‘gripping’ match, so to speak — the whole match turning on grip the spinners, from both sides, were able to exert on the batsman, despite three big scores.

Day 3 & 4 riveting. I had to watch the highlights of both days, back-to-back, though I was pressed for time. I had to know who won. For much of the time it could have gone either way. Early on in Day 4 I thought Bangladesh and thrown away their chances. There were some dropped catches — though, to be fair, they were all hard chances.

Very impressed how they stuck to their task. When the target went below 30 I thought Australia would claw it back. Not to be.

Good Test match. Enjoyed all of it — albeit, in highlight form.

Who would have thought that Australia would be this vulnerable. It was quite the bowler’s pitch. That made it exciting. We should have more pitches like that. Makes for more riveting cricket.

Thank YOU Bangladesh. Well done and kudos. But, I suspect Australia will come screaming back on the 2nd Test, starting September 4, 2017.
