“The Chart Room” is a well-known landmark just a few miles prior to the MAIN Hulls Cove entrance to the Acadia National Park. Click to ENLARGE. Created by Anura Guruge.

As far as I know, and as far as I can tell, this is the only fatal accident anywhere close to Acadia National Park in 2017 — so far. The prior major accident, on July 11, 2017, was non-fatal. Prior to that was the motorcycle crash, on Cadillac Mountain, September 4, 2016.

To be fair this was NOT inside the Park but it is as close to the Park as you can get without actually being inside. As you can see in the report, Park Rangers were at the accident to handle traffic.

Well known landmark. Hard to miss. Always crowded.

We were, of course, at Acadia over the Labor Day Weekend, this year — as we have since 2013. Traffic was crazy a couple of times BUT no accidents as far as I heard.

Ivan Pavlov, Of The Salivating Dogs, Was Born This Day 168-Years Ago; September 14, 1849.

An interesting & educational YouTube video.

I had to write this post as soon as I learned it was the great man’s birthday — it was Pavlovian!

I am fond of his work so, to be fair, I would have written this even if it wasn’t Pavlovian.

Easy to forget that what he was really researching was DIGESTION in dogs and not conditioning! The above video makes that very clear.

Also note that it is his birthday PER the Julian calendar that was being used in Russia at the time! The Russians used the Julian calendar till 1919 — i.e., post revolution! Wow. Between 1800 and 1900 the difference between the two calendars was 12-days. Hence the September 14/September 26 ‘confusion’.

The Dalai Lama Should Go On A Hunger Strike To End Refugee Crisis In Myanmar (Née Burma).

‘We’ all know that this crisis was architected and engineered by Burma’s hardline Buddhists. This has been coming to a head for years.

I have been warning you about this for years. Just two examples (and click image to access the post on this blog):

** ** ** ** **

Well it is time for the Dalai Lama to ACT. Words, especially from him, are cheap and mundane.

Mahatma Gandhi would have gone on a hunger strikes, without hesitation, demanding a STOP to the violence. And it would work.

It is about time the Dalai Lama stopped raking in his celebrity money and did something constructive to shape/help Buddhism — given that he has the Western World hoodwinked that he represents Buddhists. So, come on Dalai Lama. Be a MAN.

[Yes, there is a very good reason he would NOT dare go on a hunger strike for this cause or any other. He is NO Mahatma Gandhi. ‘They’ would just let him die!]

Wolfeboro Adult Education Offering “Mobil Photography” This Fall, “Cumberland Farms” In Spring.

From the official Fall 2017 Schedule.

The picturesque and historic Mobil gas station in Meredith will be featured.

Very creative and clever. Got to hand it to the Governor Wentworth folks. They come up with some amazing ideas. If you are going to shoot gas stations you can’t beat Mobil because of their Pegasus signs. I will try and see if I can get some pictures from this class to share with you.

Gobe Filter Kit 72mm For My Sony a7 II E-Mount FE 24-240mm Zoom Lens.

by Anura Guruge

During my camera saga of the last 3-years the two things that I did not bother with too much were filters and flash units. Consequently I did not have any proper filters for my a7 II zoom. Over the last year of so I have stopped using UV filters on my lenses! I did a lot of research on the subject and RELUCTANTLY had to admit that putting a ‘cheap’ filter, even at $70, in front of an expensive lens made little sense. And, yes, I realize that I do not have the protection of having a filter in front of my lens. That does bother me.

Anywho … I needed a polarization filter for shooting fall foliage. Despite my commitment for shooting pictures without any post-processing, I do NOT feel that using a polarization filter is cheating — partly because I see the daylight world through my sunglasses (which I wear incessantly).

I was looking around for a decent polarization filter, with 72mm thread, when I came across this Gobe stack of ten filters.

Reminded me immediately of Cokin filters when they first came out in the late 1970s. I was hooked on Cokin from the time I saw their first print ad in a British photography magazine. I trespassed around Paris shortly afterwards trying to buy a kit. I soon had most of the early set of filters for my then Canon A1.

There is something about Gobe that resonates. Love the packaging. That they CLAIM that they will plan 5 trees for each stack purchased is neat. I like that.

I haven’t really tried out these filters as yet. Not sure how their optics will be. I am hoping for the best. I have never used Neutral Density filters and looking forward to playing with some.

I will keep you posted. For now just wanted to show you the cute stack packaging.
