Remembrance Sunday 2017, London Cenotaph Ceremony Video With The Queen, Prince Philip & Prince Charles.

by Anura Guruge

This year, as had been announced by Buckingham Palace a month ago, Prince Charles, rather than the Queen, laid the first wreath (i.e., the Head of State’s wreath) at the Cenotaph.

The Queen (91) & Prince Philip (91), suitably decked in red poppies, watched from the balcony of the Foreign Office.

Contrary to what you may read or hear (including in the description of the above video) this is NOT the first time that the Queen has not laid the ceremonial wreath. It was the 7th time. TWICE (1959 & 1963) were when she was pregnant and the other four were when she was out of the country on state visits abroad. In 1983, Prince Charles performed the same role as he did today, while the Queen was on an official visit to Kenya.
