Southwest Harbor (Acadia), Maine: ‘Firefighter Workout’ — A Great Way To Burn Some Thanksgiving Calories.

by Anura Guruge

From the oustanding ‘Mount Desert ISLANDER

Southwest Harbor, Maine (one of many harbors around Acadia National Park), is a bohemian and creative oasis. It is the home of the “Common Good Cafe” — my favorite place for Sunday breakfast when I am up there.

This fundraised caught my eye. Neato. I love tug-of-war. Pulling a fire truck would be so cool. I am envious.

Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), Closed Above 1,000 For The FIRST Time, This Day, 47 Years Ago; November 14, 1970.

That Dow ‘1,000’ was way before my time — in terms of investing. I was all of 17 and did not have any investments — other than a car.

Wow. The Dow closed today at 23,409. Up 22,409 points in 47-years, though we sure had our up-and-downs.

I started investing around 1985. The Dow was still flirting around 1,000!

I have been continually invested since 1985, though the amount I had invested as fluctuated. What a ride it has been.

Dow ‘1,000’ for the first time. Next year we will have Dow ‘30,000’.

Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick” Was Published In The U.S., This Day, 166-Years Ago; November 14, 1851.

First U.S. edition, New York, 1851.

Inspiration, IF NOT basis, for Melville’s “Moby Dick”.

I have to confess that I am NOT sure whether I have ever read ‘Moby Dick’ in its entirety! Yikes. I know I have tried, but I have this distinct impression that I gave up — albeit, this from when I was a teenager (and, to be honest, I do not that often NOT finish a book if I start reading it).

That said I have read Nathaniel Philbrick’s “Revenge of the Whale” — and recently also watched the movie. I am a BIG fan of Nathaniel Philbrick and have read 3 or 4 of his other books.

Interesting that ‘Moby Dick’ was first published in London — rather than New York.

People With Interesting Names: Would YOU Handover Your Life Savings To A “Rude”?

Cracked me up when I read the story on “marketwatch.com“.

You have to have both magical chutzpah & huge kahunas to be able to run a ponzi scheme with a name “Rude”. I am in awe. Wow.

It gets better. The article says he had excellent ‘soft skills’ and was non-threatening. I guess he was NEVER rude.

I had never heard of ‘it’ as a name.

Nearly 9,000 folks in the U.S. Wow.

Per the last U.S. census we are supposed to have 151,671 last names in the U.S.

Click to ENLARGE. AGAIN from: mynamestats.com.

So, 4,553 in the ranking is kind of down there — BUT way more than I would have suspected.

I hope that they will not be too rude to him when he is prison.

Garmin Vivoactive 3: Price Reduction On ALL Models Precipitated By Delays To Slate – Gunmetal Version.

by Anura Guruge

All this as of Tuesday, November 14, 2017.

Click on images to ENLARGE them.

Current Pricing At Amazon; $279 for the ugly models.

All because the Slate — Gunmetal is still back-ordered!

But Amazon, per PHONE CALL, insists that I will get mine
on November 20, 2017.

There will be hell to pay if I don’t and I have informed Amazon of that.

Hell to pay” — will translate into a $48 (i.e., 15% rebate). {Smile}

Best Buy has already done its Price Match.

And at Garmin. This is a pretty POOR show on their part.

Garmin appears to have screwed-up pretty badly — in making the Slate/Gunmetal version available.

It appears that 2 or 3 New York “Time Square” camera shops got a FEW units early. But, I don’t trust any of these places.

That Amazon did NOT get a shipment as yet is SCARY.

Amazing that they are discounting the Vivoactive 3 already — within a couple of weeks of availability. This discount has trickled down to all the other Garmin products too — as would have to be the case. Glad I am NOT a Garmin shareholder.
