Cricket, Afghan Cricket At That, Gets Talked About On The Floor Of The U.S. Senate — Today, Thanks To Rand Paul.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE. Rand Paul used a variant of this slide, from his “Waste Report”, on the Senate Floor.

As some of you know, I am a political and news junkie. So, I have been intrigued by Senator Rand Paul’s (R-Kentucky) attempts to do a filibuster of sorts, on the floor of the U.S. Senate, to force another U.S. Government Shutdown at midnight.

It is not getting the wall-to-wall TV coverage it deserves.

I happen to catch a snippet of it on CNN around 6pm.

Rand Paul (of the busted ribs) was talking about cricket, Afghan cricket and this supposed televised cricket league.

His contention is that this is a waste in that most Afghans do not have TV. I am not sure that is true. Yes, of course, there will be many, many rurals areas without TV but there are also large urban centers.

Plus, cricket in Afghanistan is thriving and is, understandably, a source of great pride. So, in this instance Rand Paul might be doing an disservice and injustice to Afghans — in particular the cricket fans.

No word needed, though I think it will make a great title for a movie.

All the snow we got yesterday with 2018 Winter Storm ‘Liam’. Light, fluffy snow.

“Growing Up Smith” Movie (2015) — Brilliant: Very Funny & Emotive In The End.

by Anura Guruge

Never heard of it, never seen a trailer for it. Then this past Monday I was idly browsing through the DISH program guide when I noticed that it must have been a STARZ preview weekend. “Growing Up Smith” was coming up and it looked interesting. We, for obvious reasons, are suckers for this type of movie — Indians coming of age in the U.S. (or the U.K.). That it was a 10-year old was even better — and as I had hoped Teischan loved it.

Very clever and cute movie. Brilliantly put together. Rip roaringly funny. Really, really funny — at so many levels. Then right at the end … very emotive. Even tear jerking. Teischan was mad that it ended the way it did. But, the ending was good. You could make up your own scenario.

Definitely recommend it. One of the more entertaining movies I have seen of late. Enjoy.

Is My Google Pixel 2 Visual Core Enabled — I Got The OTA February 2018 Update Today.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE. I went looking for it twice once I had read about the OTA February 2018 update. Got, around 4:15pm. Took some time to install.

I took these pictures a few minutes ago.
The ‘Visual Core’ should have active.

I read about the February 2018 ‘Over the Air’ (OTA) security update for the Google Pixel 2 and how it was supposed to enable the ‘Visual Core‘ (for enhanced image processing) this morning.

So, I checked whether I had had the update. I hadn’t. I couldn’t get it either. But, I tried again around 4:15pm and it started downloading, 50MB. Took a few minutes to install.

I can’t say I have noticed any difference in the images the Pixel 2 has taken since. I will have to keep on trying.

Since I bought my Pixel 2 directly from the Google Play store I am supposed to get OTA updates ahead of others. So, it might take some time before you all get it.

Stay tuned.
