My (and Teischan’s) very first moose!

We have taken a lot of grief that we had never seen one. I have lived in New Hampshire 33-years, and it isn’t as if I don’t get about. Something about where I travel and when I do so.

This was total serendipity.

We had gone to the “Squam Lakes Science Center” only to find that they never open prior to May 1! So, I decided to go for a drive around Squam Lake (and look for the ‘Rattlesnake Trial‘ (which was also closed)) on Rte 113.

The Moose was on the road, just before we got to Sandwich — and it was 12:18pm. I knew what it was right away. A YOUNG moose. Not very big. About the size of a horse. Grey. Shedding. It went into the woods before I could get my phone out.

But, at least we have broken our ‘duck’.
