RED Dress Project (REDress), At The National Mall, To Highlight Violence Against Native Indian Women.

This the empty redress project is a wonderful thing IF NOT for the fact that it is trying to draw attention to a HORRIBLE crime taking place in this country — i.e., the violence against Native Indian women as well as their disappearance (as in gone forever).

It is tragic.

What makes it worse that much of it is perpetrated by Native Indian men, their relatives and their kinfolk.

The Native Indian authorities are doing an atrocious job protecting their own females, young and old.

I have seen it first hand in my many trips to the Navajo Nation.

The Native Indians have issues. This, the violence against women, is one of them.

We need MORE than just this eye-catching project. But, it is a good start. Bravo and THANKS.

Alton (NH) Shooting By 11-Year Old Boy (UPDATE): Both Victims Are Now Dead, Boy Adopted.

Boston & overseas media (e.g., U.K. ‘Daily Mail‘) have now disclosed her, viz. Lizette Eckert’s, Facebook profile and even some of the pictures therein.

I do NOT feel comfortable doing that. So, I am only showing PIXELATED versions. You can go looking in Facebook if you so wish.

Appears that the father, James Eckert (48), died Friday evening following the shooting that took place around 7:30am. He had been shot multiple times!

The mother Lizette Eckert (50) was dead, when the police arrived, from a single gunshot injury.

As soon as I saw the pictures of the three kids I had a hunch that the two boys may have been adopted. That has since been confirmed in the media (e.g., U.K. ‘Daily Mail’). They look like they might be brothers. So, they might have been adopted together.

I can’t stop thinking about the poor 11-year old kid. That I have a 12-year old that I devote much of my life has much to do with it. Just trying to work out what is going through his head and how he is coping with it all. I even had to look up New Hampshire juvenile detention laws. I am not clear. Appears that they would have to have, under normal circumstances, released him. But, they say he remains in custody. Oh dear. I think of him wanting breakfast!

11-year old.

That he had easy access to a gun makes me livid. The father, I assume, was responsible for that.

We will never know the details.

I have to think that it had to have been serious for a 11-year old to do what he did. I hope there was no ‘abuse’. They lived in the woods and the kids were homeschooled. Not sure who saw the kids on a regular basis.

That he took off into the woods, in 35F weather, in his pjs, in what is deep snow bothers me too. He thought he could run. He thought he could get away. He had to have been scared. Not right for a 11-year old.

If you are thinking that my thoughts are mainly about the 11-year old, you are right. Last year I was taking care of a 11-year old. I know their demands and needs. All I can think is this poor kid.

I would love to know where he is from. He has, at a minimum, a lot of Indian (as in Far East Indian).

Very close to home on two counts. The shooting happened about 2.5 miles away, as the crow flies, from our house. We had driven by the road on Tuesday.

A 11-year old did the shooting. We have a 12-year old.

Though ours had been homeschooled for a year, she had gone to the local school, viz. ACS, for nearly 8-years. Was this a classmate? Somebody she knew? I knew of at least one child, albeit a 12-year old girl, who lived in that vicinity.

I am sure the other two kids are being well taken care of. They appear to have a ton of family. She has 875 Facebook friends!

The poor kids are orphans. This is such a shame.

I am so fed up of mindless folks talking about prayer as it relates to this tragedy. Too late now.

Last Time Easter Was On April 21, As In 2019, Was 1957 — 62-Years Ago.

by Anura Guruge

Easter, your quintessential ‘movable feast’ can fall between March 22 (since it HAS to be after the Spring Equinox) and April 25 (i.e., essentially the 28-day lunar month).

So, this year’s April 21 Easter is at the further end of the range.

As with last year, we again have a 62-year gap. That is quite the coincidence.

Another coincidence. Last year’s April 1 Easter was the first such Easter as of 1956. This year, first April 21 since 1957.

I have as yet not been able to work out why we get a 62-year gap … as between 1956 and 2018 and twice in prior years. The 68-year confounds me even further.

11-year gaps for such ‘movable holidays’ is common — the 11 having to do with the 7-day week and leap years every 4-years. As you can see we do get 11-year gaps quite often, just not the last time around. 35-year gaps are fairly common too.

But, 62- and 68-year are the LONGEST possible gaps for Easter.

I am actively working with my friends at ‘HRM USA‘ to try and improve the upgrade option.

Hence the need for feedback. Might as well get it right upfront. So, that is the goal.

Please help me out here. I am ‘OK’ (thanks). I can get upgrades. I am trying to look out for YOU.

How To Climb Stairs With Crutches, With Ease, Without Help, After Major Knee Surgery — YouTube Video.

by Anura Guruge

YouTube below.

I had my quadriceps tendon repair surgery,
at ‘
Frisbie Memorial Hospital‘ —
performed by Dr. Charles Blitzer
of ‘Seacoast Orthopedics
on Thursday, March 7, 2019.

Day #9 since surgery.

Pain is still negligible!

Didn’t take any pain medication, i.e., Aleve or Tylenol, this morning.
Did NOT, luckily, need any opioids.

We live in a 4-story house and to lead my life in full I need to be able to get to all 4 floors. My office, with my main PC (i.e., this which I write with), is on the 4th floor. My 47″ TV, on which I watch cricket, on a daily basis, is on the 1st floor. Kitchen #2, bedroom #3.

Have a routine to minimize the stairs I have to negotiate. In the mornings I don’t go down. LUCKILY have wife and 12-year old who will bring me up coffee, tea, food and WINE. But, during the course of the day I need to go up at least 8 flights of stairs — and for the last couple of nights I am back to working my 3rd shift, i.e., after 10pm.

So, this is how I now climb the stairs. This precludes needing someone to come after me with my crutches. It is not too bad. A tad hard on the shoulders.

I am wearing a Fitbit Versa Lite in this video. It does NOT count floors climbed. But, neither did my Garmin Fenix 5 Plus once I became disabled — because I am not moving my arms enough.

Taking Selfies My Way — Part 42; Day #5 Post-Knee Surgery — March 12, 2019.

by Anura Guruge

Click picture to ENLARGE.

Five days after my major knee surgery on Thursday, March 7, 2019. This was on the way back from seeing the surgeon, for the first time, since the operation. It was just to get the original dressing taken off.

Stopped, for the very first time, at the Rochester “Granite Steak & Grill”. Took this picture there.

P.S., I didn’t do a very good job shaving.
