2020 Spring Equinox In New Hampshire: Thursday, March 19 at 11:49 pm (Eastern); 03:49 Greenwich.

Happy Spring Equinox 2020.

[It is also called the Vernal Equinox
— that being the Latin for ‘Spring’.]

I also share with you “Spring“.

Please enjoy.

Sunrise/Sunset for New Hampshire as of the
2020 Spring Equinox.

Notice that it is NOT EXACTLY 12 hours of sunlight on the Equinox.
That is mainly because we are so good at measuring time.
It has to do with the so called precession of the Earth’s axis.
Our rotation WOBBLES like a spinning top.

Yes, we are USED to the Spring Equinox being on March 20 (or 21).

This is the earliest it has been in the US in 124 years.

The key here, however, is ‘US’. It is still March 20 in Greenwich — and to us astronomers that is good enough.

Rather convoluted explanation as to why it is this early. If you really want to know, here is a link.

But note, it will again be March 19 — in the US — in 4-years. Yes, that it is also a LEAP YEAR does have a bearing.

As is my custom let me also please share some
catching ‘Allegories of Spring’.

In Honor Of St. Patrick’s Day I Give You Not One, BUT TWO Rainbows From ‘Fort Adams’, Newport, R.I.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day 2020.

This was from exactly a week ago.

Sunset (though it was cloudy day) at ‘Fort Adams’, New Port, Rhode Island.

Yes, a double rainbow — but we are not strangers to double, or even quadruple rainbows. Rainbows follow us around. SMILE.

Maine Restaurants/Bars Still Open For St. Patrick’s Day Partying — COVID-19 Be Damned.

by Anura Guruge

OPEN — for now.
I just called (11:30am).

“Warren’s Lobster House”, Kittery, Maine — OPEN.

I just checked. I just called.

Occurred to me last night that I had heard NOTHING about restaurant/bar closures in Maine.

Yes, we are closed — and I knew that was coming.

Massachusetts, of course, was one of the firsts to close …

Maine is really just across the border from MA — just a quick 12-minutes drive through NH.

Kittery & York, on the border, has some great places to eat and be merry.

So, let the partying begin.

I might have to go to Maine just to show my support and solidarity.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day.

The Roadblocks In My Life Are Literally Melting Away.

This could NOT stop I.

I had not expected it to have melted that much — this soon. It was a pleasant surprise. I had expected that I would have to do some clamouring over packed snow/ice. No need. No roadblocks. Road clear and I went sailing by — quite merrily.

These were on my two local hiking trails. When not prevented by roadblocks this is what I get to enjoy.
