(Catholic) Cardinal Elector Demographics Snapshot — February 22, 2021.

by Anura Guruge

I am getting serious about working on the ‘Next Pope‘ — i.e., Pope Francis’ successor.

The way I work I need a good Excel spreadsheet of the Cardinal Electors so I can slice-&-dice various criteria. I used to have a ‘magical’ spreadsheet of the whole College, chock-a-block with data. But, I let it lapse.

It was too much work to get it up-to-date. It was easier just to create a smaller, simpler spreadsheet, this time just restricted to the Cardinal Electors. I did that over the last few days. You can see a fragment of it above. Now that I have it I can give you INSTANTANEOUS demographics. It is all automated.

We will have an elector, Cardinal Wako, aging out this Saturday. We will then be down to 127 electors — still 7 ABOVE the 120 permitted at a conclave. Cardinal Napier will age out 2-weeks later. But, we, barring deaths, will not be down to 120 till April next year. SMILE.

I Explain, In My New ‘Next Pope’ Blog, Why Cardinal Robert Sarah Is Not & Never Was A Realistic Papabile.

by Anura Guruge

I started this ‘Next Pope’ blog last week. Still working on it. So, far I have only managed three post, this post about ‘Robert Sarah‘ the third. I am NOT going to reproduce these posts on this blog too. I want you to get in the habit of going to that blog for future ‘Next Pope‘ posts. OK.

But, until you get into the hang of that. I do NOT want you to miss any of these ‘Next Pope’ posts.

Indian Hindu Hotel Owner Provides Competition To The Bible.

by Anura Guruge

When I opened the bedside drawer
— to store my wallet, phone & car keys.

Both ‘Hindu’ books promote ‘Krishna’.

The Manager a very NICE Indian has this small shrine outside the main door.
One morning, around 7am, I saw him doing his ‘rituals’ by it,
wafting the incense all over his body — which is how I noticed.
Very cute & TOUCHING.

It is true that I no longer spend (at least) 3- to 4-nights a week in hotels as I once did — for around 12-years in total. But, I still spend more nights a year in hotels than most. So, I have seen my share of hotel rooms.

Yes, I have seen ‘The Book of Mormon‘ in hotel rooms before — mainly when staying in Utah. I don’t think I ever saw it along with a ‘standard’ Gideon Bible. I have never seen a non-Christian missive in a hotel room drawer, in the U.S., prior to this — & it is true that I have done NO international travel in decades.

Of the three hotels we spent a total of 6-days during this week-long road trip, two were Indian owned; one also 100% run by Indians. Only one of these hotels, & I will not mention which, had these Hindu/Krishna books. I thought it was CUTE.

I actually looked it up. There is NO REQUIREMENT, let alone a law, that says U.S. hotels must provide a Bible. This was just a convention — encouraged by the Gideon Organization (which provides the Bibles).

Hotels can opt for whatever, & I read that close to 20% now provide no books, whatsoever, in their rooms. Now that I think about it, that seems right. One of the hotels we stayed in, had nothing & their drawers had NOT been cleaned in a long time. I actually had to line it with paper towels!

Well, I just wanted to share this with you.

It is all good.

Converting A Tightly Formatted Print Book Into An Acceptable eBook Is Hard Work.

by Anura Guruge

Printed Pages

People just don’t appreciate the work, effort & time involved. Yes, converting a NOVEL without any pictures, tables, lists & FANCY formatting is TRIVIAL & can even be done automatically.

NOT so with my books. SMILE.

I like tightly formatted print books & I REFUSE to ‘sell’ those that buy my eBooks short. I will not give them a SHODDY, unacceptable version.

Though I always charge rock bottom prices for my eBooks (typically just $0.99) I still insist on giving the reader the BEST that I can deliver.

So, yes, I am working on the 518-page “The Conclave” book.

This is the LARGEST book that I will have published as an eBook.

I have been working on this conversion for weeks. SMILE.

It is NOT fun being I.

Last Time Christmas Was On A Friday, As In 2020 — Was In 2015.

by Anura Guruge

There would have been one in 2004
IF NOT for it having been a Leap Year.
Christmas, per the name ‘LEAP’,
jumped over Friday & took place on Saturday.

Last time we had Christmas, i.e., December 25th, on a Friday was in 2015 — 5-years ago.

6-year gaps are common. The cycle as to when the same date falls on a given day (e.g., Monday) goes in 6-5-6-11 cycle. You can see that in the image above — as to when Christmas has fallen on a Wednesday.

This 6-5-6-11 cycle has all to do with leap years. You can see that in the 2nd figure above.

The 5-year gap comes about when we have had TWO leap years, e.g., 1996 & 2000. In each case we LEAPT over a day (which is why we call it a Leap Year, i.e., because we leap over a day, in the calendar). Because of the two leap years, the gap was only 5-days. Then, between 2000 and 2006 there was only ONE leap year. So we only leapt over one-day. The gap was thus 6.

Next year, i.e., 2021, it falls on a Saturday — BUT the Friday, Christmas Eve will be a holiday.

The Very Avant-Garde, Sci-Fi 2020 Vatican Nativity Scene That Has NOT Impressed The Pope.

by Anura Guruge

Just a few images from Google. You can do your own search.

Given that they have been doing nativity scenes for so long, they, i.e., the Vatican, does like to experiment & try out new themes.

This one is ‘interesting’. Yes, kind of a time warp so to speak. An astronaut, in a spacesuit, at the birth of Jesus.

To be fair, Pope Francis, has never been too thrilled with ANY of the Vatican nativity scenes since he has been pope. He sees them as a waste of money. He might have a point.

But I can see how this one could irk him more than most.

“The Two Pope”, 2019 Movie, Pure Fiction — Rather Than Faction &, Moreover, Riddled With Technical Errors.

by Anura Guruge

Beautifully crafted, well acted movie though the MAIN storyline is pure, unadulterated fiction.

The primary crux of the story, the 2012 meeting between the then pope, Benedict XVI, & the future pope, viz. Francis, in Castel Gandolfo did NOT happen. Period.

Yes, in December 2011 ‘Francis’ (then Bergoglio) would have, per Canon Law, had to have tendered his RETIREMENT, by letter, to Benedict XVI. That was because he had turned 75. The retirement would have been from being the Archbishop of Buenos Aires. This is rote. All Bishops, irrespective of standing, must tender a letter of retirement upon turning 75. It is up to the pope to accept & there are instances when the pope might take 5-years to do so. The retirement would NOT have been a BIG deal. Bergoglio would NOT have disappeared from the Church. He could have still carried on his work in Argentina, albeit as a CARDINAL — a retired Archbishop. I think we have about 40 cardinals in this category as I write.

Plus, though it was rumored he was runner up in the 2005 conclave, Bergoglio, in 2012, was by no means the favorite to be the next Pope — especially not so in Benedict XVI’s eyes. All that was rubbish.

What disturbed me much was the rank technical errors to do with the conclaves. Those should not have occurred. Easy enough to have got right. They could have JUST checked one of my books. SMILE. (Yes, the “The Next Pope 2011” book was still good & accurate.)

Let me just list a few of the most egregious.

  1. They do NOT, let me REPEAT, do NOT, use ‘bingo balls’ to keep track of who has voted. That is so, so stupid. The cardinals vote per their precedence — which is also how they are seated. They get up, in a row, one-after-the-other, & go place their ballot. You don’t need bingo balls to keep track. All can see the cardinals voting in sequence. Where they got that was STUPID.
    …..
  2. The new pope does NOT appear on the balcony as the Habemus Papam is being announced. In 2013 there was a 30-minute gap between the Habemus Papam & Francis appearing on the balcony. In 2005 the gap was shorter BUT there is an interval, so that banners can be draped, before the new pope appears.
    …..
  3. The new pope CERTAINLY does not, causally, pick up his new white zucchetto from a shirt box in the Sistine sacristy as he is leaving it. There is a ceremony in which the white zucchetto is presented to the new pope by the Secretary of the Conclave! That was stupid.
    ….
  4. In 2013 Francis did NOT say “May God forgive you for what you have done in my regard” at the Conclave. He said it much later, in jest, over dinner. It was John Paul I, in 1978, who said it at the conclave. Jeez.
    ….

IF you really want the TRUE in-&-outs of how a pope is elected check out this book.

This is the book. Available on Apple, Amazon, etc. etc.

Pope Francis, Who Like Trump Is So IMAGE-CONSCIOUS, Refuses To Wear A Mask.

by Anura Guruge

Click to access my post from a month ago.

The picture at the top is from today, Saturday, November 28, 2020, right after the latest cardinal creating consistory. That it was held during a pandemic raised eyebrows.

And like Trump, at all White House public gatherings, the pope refused to wear a mask. He is a law unto himself — like Trump.

Trump has done irreparable damage to the U.S. Presidency; Pope Francis to the papacy.

Both are into promoting a cult of personality.

The pope won’t wear a mask for the same reason as Trump. He thinks it will harm his looks. He is the pope. He should not be so vain.

But, vain he is.

14 Congregants Of Wolfeboro (NH) ‘Calvary Church’ Contract COVID-19.

by Anura Guruge

Click image to read their story — the original.

The IRONY. The supreme irony.

I am sure that many went to church to pray for succor from the pandemic & all of the repercussions.

Yes, I know that this is NOT the only church-related outbreak.

But, how sad?

This is why I think God has such a great sense of humor. Also the reason I don’t go to church on a regular basis.

I feel bad for these folks.

They should get their money back from God. What do YOU think?
