Garmin Vivoactive 3: Firmware 2.90 — You Might Need To FORCE A Resync After Installing 2.90.

by Anura Guruge

You should be able to find the latest firmware news here.

I noticed last night, after I had installed Firmware 2.90 on my Garmin Vivoactive 3, that it was NOT synching properly with my  ASUS ZenPad 10.1″ running Android 7.0.

It was going through the motions BUT there was NO data transfer.

I ended up FORCING a sync from the Vivoactive 3. That cleared up things.

So, just a HEADS UP.

This firmware update, just 7-days after they release 2.80, to fix the battery drain issue, came out of the blue.

I was synching my Vivoactive 3, via Bluetooth, with my Android tablet, when I noticed that it was taking unusually long. So, checked. Saw it was doing a software update. Surprised me since 2.8 was so fresh.

Just to be on the safeside came upstairs, USB connected it to my PC, and ran Garmin Express. Sure enough. Firmware version 2.90 — to fix a touchscreen issue. Must have been serious. I had not noticed. Maybe I thought it was a bit sluggish BUT I had had any issues with the touchscreen and I had been running 2.80 for a week.

So, heads up.

Best to update to 2.90.

Happy New Year.

I suspect we will have 3.0 before the Chinese New Year, which is in February.

Well we all knew that Garmin would have to fix the battery drain problem at some point. It was serious. So, this appears to be the first attempt. I haven’t had 2.8 firmware running for ling enough to tell whether it has made a difference. I will, of course, monitor and keep you posted.

I need to charge my Vivoactive 3 this evening, and whenever I do (since I do it on my main PC), I fire up Garmin Express to check on the software. It took a LONG TIME to sync so I suspected that new firmware was being downloaded. I was right.

Firmware 2.70 for the Garmin Vivoactive 3 was released on Friday, December 8, 2017. So, 2.8o was released within 20 days. Their usual goal is once a month. I am GLAD.

Firmware 2.70 for the Garmin Vivoactive 3 was released on Friday, December 8, 2017.

Though not listed as a ‘fix’ bluetooth pairing appears to have been improved.

But, then again it might be the latest update, 4.1.11, to Garmin Connect Mobile.

I would suggest that you make sure you are at these latest levels. Seem to make a noticeable difference.

My New Garmin Vivoactive 3 Paired With My Android 7.0 Tablet FIRST Time — No Issues!

by Anura Guruge

This was the replacement, from “Heart Rate Monitors USA” (who have been OUTSTANDING), for my first Garmin Vivoactive 3 that died exactly 2-weeks after I got it.

Though they shipped this brand new replacement on Tuesday, I only got it today (Saturday) because UPS is so, so pathetic.

Last time it took me 22-attempts over 4-hours.

This time — BANG. First go. Took seconds. I could NOT believe it.

4 things changed.

  1. The Vivoactive 3 has yet another FIRMWARE update. We are now at 2.70. NOT 2.60 or 2.50.
  2. There was a new version of Garmin Connect Mobile (for Android) yesterday, i.e., December 8, 2017. The Android version is at 4.1.11.
    ….
  3. I restarted the Android tablet prior to attempting the pairing.
    ….
  4. I did a FORCE STOP on Bluetooth, on the tablet, just prior to the pairing.

It was probably the new software that made the difference. I had shared my experience and screen shots with Garmin.

But, it is easy enough to do the other two steps as well.

Hope this helps.
