It is NOT biographical BUT the dollhouse exists. Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petronella_Oortman

Over three decades PBSMasterpiece Theatre‘ has rarely, if ever, disappointed I. So, when I happened to see the trailer for ‘The Miniaturist’ I took note. I recorded it on Sunday and watched it today.

It is definitely worthy of being labeled ‘Masterpiece’. It was gripping from the start.

Yes, given that it is set in Amsterdam, in the same timeframe, it will remind you of ‘Girl With A Pearl Earring‘ (the 2003 movie). This is better. So, just before writing this I did some research and found what I shared with you before. Not a true story, out-and-out. But, the people and the actual dollhouse are real. Then there is divergence. But, it is OK.

Helps if you know a tad about Calvinism and its hold on The Netherlands in the 17th century. But, not appreciating the subtleties will not detract.

I enjoyed it, immensely. Highly recommend it. It is PBS, so you should be able to catch the episode, on air during this week, on the Web.

BBC 2009 “The Diary Of Anne Frank” Mini-Series To Start on “Acorn TV” June 11, 2018.

As part of her Grade 6 homeschooling Teischan just finished reading the book (obviously at my behest). So the timing is very propitious for us.

Though the series is 9-years old I do not think I have seen it before. So, I am looking forward to it. I have been by the house in Amsterdam but never did the tour.

I have had Acorn for at least 2-years. Maybe more. We do watch it a fair bit, so it is worth it for us. You should check it out. There is a LOT of content and some good shows.

The Windows Of Boston — Saturday, February 24, 2018.

I like windows with character. I enjoy the shapes, colors, sizes, positionings & juxtapositionings … As I pointed out in this post I like shapes and patterns in general, and windows are a special class of such patterns.

Whenever I am in a city I like to let my eyes roam over the windows. Boston, like all of the older cities on the US Northeast, has a fascinating variety of windows, both old and new. Until I started taking this set of pictures I had never realized the similarity of some of the buildings to those in Amsterdam. I had noticed this in Philadelphia too.

This was our trip on Saturday, to celebrate the 2018 Chinese New Year with Dim Sum, at ‘China Pearl’, in Chinatown. After the Dim Sum Teischan wanted to explore Boston Common & Public Park. I took most of these pictures on that walk which was around 2.5 miles in total.

He is not in my pantheon of favorite painters BUT I do respect and admire his work — as one must. He sure had talent and knew how to use it. 411 years ago. Wow. That is a long time and makes you think. So much water has flowed under the many bridges in Amsterdam.

The “New York Stock Exchange” (NYSE) Was Founded This Day 225 Years Ago — On May 17, 1792.

225 years ago. Wow. That does seem like a long time ago.

Just think: IF you had ancestors who bought stock that day and held onto them.

I don’t think, though I haven’t looked it up, that this was the first Stock Exchange. Something tells me that London or possibly Amsterdam predated New York. Nonetheless, 225-years is quite the anniversary. 225 years from now will be 2,242!
