I Have A Feeling That Amazon Will Split, 10-to-1, Before Jeff Bezos Leaves — But I Could Be Wrong.

by Anura Guruge

Just a hunch. But, I could be wrong. It doesn’t really matter to I. As some of you know I have BIG into AMZN for many, many year. That said, I do like splits. Why? Two reasons, both of which were amply demonstrated with Tesla’s split last year. These being:

  1. News of the split will drive the price up. It shouldn’t, but it always does! So, that would be fun. Yes, the price will fall, but the run-up is exciting & some can profit majorly — though not I. I rarely sell any AMZN shares. I am in AMZN for the long-haul.
    ….
  2. A 10-to-1 split will open up MORE opportunities for option trading. That is the BIG DRAW as far as I am concerned. You can ONLY trade options in 100-share blocks. With AMZN’s $3,000+ price amassing 100-shares is expensive –> $300,000! But, following a 10-to-1 split it would be 10 times easier. SMILE. You will only need $30,000. HUGE difference. I talked about this with TSLA. Yes, I benefited from this with TSLA. Think about it.

As the stock chart above shows there has NOT been a split of AMZN this millenia! It has been over 20-years. At $3,000+ the price is ripe for a split, & 10-to-1 sounds good to 1. Even a 5-to-1 will not be bad.

However, I think that Jeff Bezos’ departure in June is the real catalyst & motivation. Jeff has already wrought miracles in terms of both the company & AMZN stock price. But, a split prior to his departure will give the AMZN price another spike. That would still be under Jeff’s tenure. When history is written that spike will also be credited to him. So, rather than leave when AMZN was at (say) $3,250, it might go as high as $4,500 (pre-split). Will make Jeff’s legacy that much richer. Think about it. SMILE.

Yes, I bought SOME TSLA. My kids already had SOME TSLA.

I bought my first TSLA, 3 (4 maybe 5) years ago, at $380 a SHARE. People told me I was CRAZY. SMILE.

I know I am CRAZY. I am CRAZY as a cat. SMILE.

Yes, I am SMILING.

I have been LONG, VERY LONG (like 6-years) on AMZN, TSLA, NVDA, ROKU (since IPO), AVGO …

So, have the kids, BUT they also have NFLX & APPL. SMILE. GRIN.

Those Who This Morning Thought Markets Would Close Up Deserve To Lose Everything They Did — And Why Is ‘Ferrari’ UP?

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE. Again from ‘MarketWatch’ — where else?

The mentality and acumen of many of my fellow investors amaze I!

Why would you think — on a FRIDAY — with New York & California closing down, that THE SMART MONEY (and yes, I do count myself among those (SMILE, SMILE)) would go LONG into the weekend. [‘Long’, meaning without taking risk off the table.]

That is not how it works. Smart money is risk averse. They are NOT going to get caught short over the weekend in case things really start to unravel. Best to unwind position and keep your powder dry for Monday.

All that said, I am LONG — and have been for 20-years! But, I am SMART MONEY.

I knew that we would close down today. Had to. If we hadn’t, I would have despaired.

I am keeping an eye on Ferrari.

Now, in the case of Ferrari — I did sell! I had owned Ferrari for YEARS, since it was spun off from ‘Fiat Chrysler‘ in 2014!

I will buy it back — later in the year.

But, why is it going up NOW?

How is rushing out buying cars right now.

Very strange.

I feel bad for the stupid money. SMILE.

Those Who Sold Amazon (AMZN) Stock Last Week, On Coronavirus Fears, Are STUPID And Don’t Deserve To Own AMZN.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE. AMZN ‘quote’ from ‘MarketWatch’.

How STUPID can you be? Selling Amazon on fears of the Coronavirus is beyond stupid. It defies credulity.

The Coronavirus is GREAT for Amazon. Jeeeez!

Think about it for Christ’s sake.

People don’t want to go Walmart, the Mall or their supermarket. They are going to stay at home and order ONLINE — from, guess who, Amazon.

I was telling my daughter to BUY AMZN!

I don’t need to buy AMZN!

I have owned AMZN since 2014. SMILE. Not selling anytime soon. SMILE.

I am GLAD the stupid investors are out of AMZN. I can’t abide stupid investors. Good riddance. Leave AMZN for the seasoned pros like I. Thanks. SMILE.

I was long 2008 to 2012. No reason to NOT be so now. Thanks. SMILE.

Time, Methinks, Given Geopolitical Bedlam, To Get Into Some Long/Short Mutual Funds.

by Anura Guruge

I do not have the temperament, the patience or for that matter the essential cahoonas to short stock. I also REFUSE to have ‘margins’ on my trading accounts. I will only trade using my money. SMILE. So, in 40-years of active trading, some of it manic, I have NEVER shorted a stock. Yes, I do do options, but yet again, straight uncomplicated (but creative) CALLS. I am not greedy. I have been doing this for a longtime and in the last decade or so hit my stride. SMILE.

Well, I am still going to stay LONG this year — irrespective of what transpires.

Given that I have stayed long for decades, I am not about to suddenly change my philosophy to trading. PLUS, given how long I have been long — on some ‘decent’ stock (like say ‘AMZN’) — there is really no reason for I to panic.

But, over the weekend long/short mutuals came to mind. I, as is my wont, did some extensive and frenzied research. Yep, they seem to make sense. I do NOT plan to put much in them. Probably not even 5%! In a way they are but a diversion.

Anywho, I just wanted to share my thinking & research, over the weekend, with you — as I am like that. The two mutuals identified above look ‘OK’ to I. Both have ‘higher-load’ variants — hence why you see them basically twice. Check them out if YOU too had been thinking about long/short mutuals.

I Believe That ‘Pinterest’ (PINS) Stock Could Be The Next ‘Etsy’ Or Even A Micro-AMZN!

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE. From ‘marketwatch.com’. Symbol PINS.

I got into Etsy and AMZN late — though in the case of AMZN it would be very. v. v. churlish of I to complain. SMILE.

Well, with PINS I am hoping NOT to make that mistake. From what I can see PINS is in a great position to greatly improve upon its user base and Ad. revenue. So, I got into PINS shortly after the IPO. It was a tough road to hoe the last few weeks but today it was pay dirt. Still a long way to go BUT I am typically a VERY LONG TERM buy-and-hold investor.

So, I am banking on PINS. I don’t own that many as yet. But, I will slowly increase my stake.

So, just wanted to SHARE this with you. Have a look. What have YOU got to lose?

Sunday Deliveries By Amazon — WHY? Didn’t Ask For It. Just Straight Prime 2-Day.

by Anura Guruge

For the second Sunday in a row we had an Amazon delivery via USPS.

Strange.

Never asked for Sunday, or even 1-day delivery.

Just ordered them ‘2-day’ Prime — given I am a Prime Member of longstanding.

Kind of funny. Shortly after I placed the orders it showed SUNDAY delivery. So, they are planning for it.

I am sure the USPS is not complaining. Spoke to the delivery person today. He seemed quite happy. He is getting paid.

But, why?

Doesn’t make sense.

And as a AMZN shareholder (also of longstanding) this bothers me, though, OF COURSE, I cannot complain about the ROI I have got from AMZN. Smile.

Don McLean Of ‘American Pie’ Says He Gets By With Just 2 Stocks — Can You Guess What They Are?

by Anura Guruge

This article is not as precise as I would have hoped and I am not sure how up to-date it is. As you can see above, he was in major trouble with an ex-wife in 2016 & 2017. Not sure whether that was wife #1 or #2.

Did not know that he has a degree in finance, from Iowa College, from 1968. That is impressive. Just assumed that he had pursued a career in music all his adult life.

So, did you guess the two stocks?

AMZN (Amazon) & GOOG (Google, now Alphabet).

Yep. No doubt great stock. Yes, I own them too, but I am sure that I have no owned them for as long as he has or I have 1/1,000,000 the stake he has in them.

But, here is where I have a problem.

AMZN IPO was in 1997; Google’s in 2004.

Don McLean made the bulk of his money in the 1970s. AMZN and GOOG did not even exist then. We didn’t even have the InterWeb.

Does this mean he never owned any stock prior to AMZN & GOOG.

I somehow doubt that.

But, interesting. You can’t go from with these two stocks — especially after you have owned them for a few years.

So, he has done good.

I wish him luck. I hope his troubles are behind him. I like him a lot. ‘American Pie‘ is one of my all time favorites.

The Teeth-Chattering, Stupendous Explosion In Amazon Stock Price Is Downright SCARY!

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE. Underlying ‘chart’ from MarketWarch.com, of course.

One Year Growth

Jan. 13, 2017 = $817 –> Jan. 12, 2018 = $1,305.

$488 in 1 year.

60% increase.

Not sour grapes, by any means, on my part. {Smile}

Just the sober reflections of someone who owned shares during THE ‘dot.com‘ and remember seeing explosions similar to this.

Too much, too fast.

The 2-weeks on 2018 has been just, downright crazy.

AMZN has gone up nearly every day — of every day bar one.

Too fast.

I worry that people are going to get burned.

“Heart Rate Monitors USA” (HRM USA) — Outstanding Customer Support On Garmin Devices.

by Anura Guruge

Click to access the HRM USA Website.

I got my Garmin Vivoactive 3 (Gunmetal) from “Heart Rate Monitors USA” in mid-November, 2017. As those who follow this blog know I, as both an Amazon Prime Member of longstanding & an Amazon shareholder, try not to buy anything other than from “Amazon Fulfillment“. But, Amazon could not get me the ‘3’ in Gunmetal till November 20 (though I had pre-ordered it) and HRM USA had a few already in stock and could get it to me on November 16. I was hesitant. But, I had already waited over a month for this.

I called HRM USA. Spoke to a lady named ‘Amy‘. She assured me that I cannot go wrong with HRM USA. So, I took a chance with them. AND THEY HAVE NOT LET ME DOWN. They have actually been pretty amazing. Brilliant. A credit to Customer Service. Exemplary. So many could learn from them. Garmin should be very proud of them.

As I have chronicled here, my Vivoactive 3 died 15-days after I got it. It appears that there may be an inherent hardware problem. I was crushed and dismayed. I was again going to be without a tracker on my wrist.

I called up HRM USA, on a Friday afternoon, in a panic. I got ‘Jackie’. She was very, very good. She immediately knew what to do. Said she will e-mail me a UPS return then and there. And she did. And, furthermore, she stayed on the line till I got it. I was impressed. This was good. I managed to get the return to UPS that evening.

UPS delivered it to HRM USA in Pennsylvania on Tuesday. I called to make sure. Spoke to both ‘Jakie‘ and ‘Katie N.‘ They were both so nice and kind. Assured me that they will ship me a new one, in Gunmetal, that day itself.

They did. Kudos. Bravo etc. I was so happy.

Then UPS screwed up. I was supposed to get it Thursday. They did not deliver. On Friday they said they would deliver on MONDAY! I was NOT happy.

I called and spoke with ‘Katie’. Asked her whether she could prod UPS for a (rare) Saturday delivery. She told me she would try and I knew she would.

UPS delivered it on Saturday! It is the season of MIRACLES!

I was so happy and grateful.

Brand new unit. No games. And for the icing on the cake this ‘3’ (albeit with newer firmware) paired with my Asus Android 7.0 tablet first time. Another miracle.

It is such a delight to deal with folks like ‘Jackie’ and ‘Katie N.’ I used to be a Customer Support Manager for both ITT and Northern Telecom — in the UK. So, I do know a bit about the art and science of making customers feel good. Well HRM USA sure can teach so many.

I am happy.

Thank YOU, Heart Rate Monitors USA.
