Having Genuine Google Doodle, For Dame Jean Macnamara, On ‘April 1’, Was Stupid!

by Anura Guruge

Yes, I know it was her birthday — after I looked her up. She is by no means a household name — and I suspect that that is even the case in her how country of Australia.

So, what was Google THINKING?

Yes, Google as we all know has a long and storied history of doing clever April 1st jokes.

Yes, we all know about the ongoing pandemic. Yes, I worked out that Google MIGHT refrain from joking around this year — given the gravity of the situation.

So, it would have been BEST not to do ANYTHING.

Do the Google Doodle for her the next day. That would have been better.

This was STUPID — Google.

Say it after I. “This was STUPID Google”.

British RAF 100-Year Birthday, Royal Flypast Videos — July 10, 2018.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and read here. Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Air_Force

The actual Royal Air Force (RAF) birthday falls on April Fool’s Day but anybody with any sense knows that the British RAF is no laughing matter. Its history is remarkable that it has never been involved in a losing war. Yes, the RAF has only participated in wars that were won by the British or the Allies. Something to think about.

The actual 100th birthday was in April 2018, BUT ‘they’ held back this 100-plane Royal flyover till July — so that the Summer visitors can get into the act.

Check out the videos. There are more on YouTube including other RAF flyovers.

Google likes to introduce products on April Fool’s Day to keep us guessing.

GMail is the best known example.

Enjoy. I am going to get a couple — v. BIG yard.

MetrcoCast Internet (105 Mbps) Outage April 1, 2016, in Alton, New Hampshire, Around 4pm.

by Anura Guruge

metrocastlogo2016About a 30 to 40 minute outage Friday, April 1, 2016 (yes, April Fool’s Day) around Alton & Barnstead, New Hampshire. Started getting jerky response and page load failures BEFORE the service completely went down. From my experience it last approximately from 4pm to 4:40pm. Put a call through to MetroCast. By the time they called back (per their callback feature) Internet service, at a full 110 Mbps, per gstnetworks.net, was up and running. They admitted that there had been a problem and that they had been unaware of it for 20 minutes.

Just documenting it here (now) for the record (so that I can just search this blog for outages). There is (and has always been) method to my apparent madness.

Coincidentally or otherwise TDS was holding their “TDS TV” open house in Alton at the same time. Strange?

Smile.

Well you can’t say I did NOT tell Ya! I told ya multiple times to stay clear of this IPO.

Well it could have been much worse. I, despite my 12+ year plus association with GoDaddy, I never had an interest in owning this stock.

Another object lesson that all ‘Internet’ IPOs are not get rich schemes. GDDY never was going to be that. After all these years it still does not make money and it is losing customers.

So you have been warned.

Typical GoDaddy. In your face.

IPO on April Fool’s Day. I wonder how many will rue their decision to go with GDDY.

Be warned. April Fool’s Day and this is NOT an April Fool’s prank post. This is kosher.

Would appear that Google, atypically, appears to be gun shy after all the flack they received about the Cesar Chavez Doodle on Good Friday.

Other than the amazing SCRATCH Doodle they did on April 1, April Fool’s Day, they have stayed away from U.S. Doodles.

But they have been doing Doodles for their overseas markets. I was particularly struck by the April 9, 2013 one, in Hong Kong, for Hung Xun Tao’s 85th birthday. I have never heard of him. Appears he was a famous famous Chinese children’s literature writer and theorist. Also appears that Google, as they have done in the past, got his name wrong! It is supposed to be Hong Xuntao. Look at that Doodle, which I reproduce above. Notice anything unusual? ‘Google’ does appear, somewhat, BUT it is unusually muted and blurred. They never do that?
