The Father’s Day Google Doodle is a re-tread.
It has been used earlier in the year for OTHER Father’s Days.
U.S. Father’s Day deserved its own one.

The solstice Google Doodles are decent BUT could have been more sparkling.

Yet AGAIN, and now it is becoming a trend,
capricious, erratic, CONFUSING reach.
Why NOT the WHOLE British Commonwealth?
Why South Korea, Taiwan and Italy?

The ORIGINAL Magna Carta.

Interesting.

Pretty nice Google Doodle for Russia. That is a Kremlin clock tower.

Had NO IDEA that Brazil celebrated Valentine’s Day in June. Maybe knowing how horny they are they might celebrate it twice — to get twice the bang.

Yet AGAIN very strange coverage by Google. Of course it makes sense that this Google Doodle
is shown across South America
— BUT WHY Nepal and Laos? Was that a mistake?

This is the MAIN international football (footie) tournament for
national teams in South America. It is a big deal. A mini World Cup.

I can’t honestly say that the name rang a bell. Yes, I think I vaguely knew that there were some very famous and pivotal Persian mathematicians. So he is one of them.

That is birthday is credited as June 10, 940 is interesting. Not sure as to whose calendaring system that might have been to begin with and, if nothing else, it is a date pre the Gregorian Calendar in 1582. Suffice to say that it was a long time ago, at least 1,075 years ago.

I think (without checking) that this has to be the OLDEST birthday marked by Google with a Google Doodle.

That he is credited with inventing negative numbers is what I like the best. That is cool. Where would we be without negative numbers? I used to be rather fond of and reasonably good at Trigonometry. As such that he was a pioneer in that humbles me.

I am GLAD Google brought him to MY attention.

Damn SHAME that Google did NOT think that this Google Doodle warranted worldwide coverage. His contributions to humankind was NOT restricted to the middle east. Google should have given this GLOBAL reach.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 In Canada started on June 5, 2015. THIS was the Google Doodle that Google did for that, on June 5, 2015 — BUT did NOT display in the U.S.! It was shown in Canada, Mexico, U.K., Spain, France, Germany, Sweden, Greece, South Africa, Australia etc.

They have repurposed it for the first U.S. Match. Interesting. One of the few Google Doodle’s that doesn’t have the word ‘Google’ in it — but funnily enough there is NO mistaking ‘Google’ within it! Clever. Also no description as to how the Doodle came to be.

This Google Doodle is restricted to Nepal.

As the above explanation points out, in paragraph two, the recent devastating earthquakes played in role in the creation of this Doodle — the FIRST, ever, for Nepal. Nice. Hopefully they will get more in the years to come.

The “prayers to Buddha” mentioned towards the bottom of Google’s 3rd paragraph is a misconception!

I have to confess that I was puzzled when I saw this Google Doodle. What went through my mind was: “Wow. I did not KNOW that Google did Doodles for living people … and IF they made an exception for Sally Ride that is NEAT”.

It had somehow ESCAPED me that she had died in 2012! Sorry. I had actually written about her in 2013. But lets PLEASE get one thing clear. Sally Ride, as I talked about in my 2013 post, was NOT the 1st woman in space. Not even close.

Interesting reach. Russia and Australia. I never knew, until now, that Australia was a part of Europe. Fancy that. I will have to remember that. [SMILE]
