Yes, the discounts, as has to be the case, is BEST on the more expensive cameras.

I, of course, checked the discount price on the Canon EOS RP kit with the 24-105mm lens. I, with my bundle, still did OK. SMILE. So, no sour-grapes here.

But, check it out. You might find a bargain that calls out to you.

B&H’s Nikon Z Series Trade-In Event Impresses Me None. They Are Just Trying To Harvest Contact Information.

by Anura Guruge

I, sad to say, have never been a fan of B&H. Maybe if I lived in New York and had access to one of their stores.

I have never had any joy with them. I would rather deal with Amazon, when it comes to electronics, any day of the week.

I have, alas, been suckered into previous trade-in SCAMS by B&H. They are not dealing in good faith. From what I can see there are just trying to get your contact information and then say that they are not interested in your trade-in.

So, I am not going to bother, though I do have a rather nice Sony a7 II to trade-in. Instead, I am going to sell it myself. I hate being scammed.

Nikon Raises The Price Of Its Aging P900 Super-Zoom In Response To Sony’s $1,698 RX10 IV Mid-Zoom.

 by Anura Guruge

What I paid for my Nikon P900 in August 2016
— and there was a shortage of them,
hence why I had to get it from Best Buy.

$696 at B&H. Wow. Check their Website.

Cheaper at Amazon BUT still $55, ~9%, more than I paid a year ago and I didn’t get mine at a discount or at a sale.

And it is this newly announced Sony RX10 IV that is driving up the prices!

It is NOT often you see a 9% – 10% price increase on a camera introduced 2.5 years ago, ESPECIALLY when there are hot rumors that it is to be superseded by a even more powerful model, the so called Nikon P1000.

But that is exactly what has happened with the Nikon P900. True is a pretty special and unique camera and I am very fond of mine.

The price increase is as a response to Sony’s new 24-600mm, mid-zoom RX10 IV. True, that the P900, with its 24-2,000 zoom reaches out much further. So, the P900 looks quite a bargain, even at $656 against the huge $1,698 for the RX10 IV.

But, please do NOT get duped. The RX10 IV has a 1″ sensor while the Nikon P900 has a 1/2.3″ sensor. That is a HUGE difference. Plus the Nikon is pretty long in the tooth. So, just a heads up.

‘B&H’ Photo — A Major Camera Outlet — Closed For 9-Days, Straight, For 2017 Passover.

Of course it is their prerogative and you have to admire them for their commitment and steadfastness.

I kind of got used to ‘BuyDig‘ (a.k.a. ‘Beach Camera‘) closing for Jewish holidays when I used to buy cameras from them. But, I don’t remember them ever closing for that long.

No big deal. I do not recall buying anything major from ‘B&H’ though I used to enjoy getting their thick, and jam-packed printed catalogue.

This is just a heads up.

Another Disturbing Post Of ‘B&H’ Supposedly Selling A Used Sony As New.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and read this April 9, 2017
thread on “DPReview” Forums.

Such posts, which appear on a regular basis, always distress me.

Appears it is a widespread practice in the U.S. — and this is why the likes of Sony don’t put seals on new cameras!

I am sure that over the last 3 years I have ended up getting a used cameras as new.

This is my continuing nightmare.

Which is why of late I try to buy only from Amazon who claim to eschew this practice though there are those that claim Amazon is as guilty as others.

Just a heads up.

This appears to be a widespread problem. So be aware, very aware.

Sony’s Rebates On The Popular Alpha Mirrorless Cameras Continue Past April 1, 2017.

by Anura Guruge

The rebates, which were in the $200 — $300 range, were supposed to expire this last weekend — and that was NO April Fool’s prank.

But that has no happened as yet. If anything the likes of B&H are discounting even deeper.

There is a BIG Sony announcement scheduled for April 23, 2017 and my druthers is that Sony will keep the rebates going till past that. Depending on what is announced we could maybe even see further discounts on selected models, e.g. Sony a7 II.

So, as ever, a timely heads up.

Two days ago I pointed you towards a lens tutorial in ‘Explora‘. I started checking out ‘Explora’ around that time.

I have been impressed. Good quality, no-nonsense, germane posts.

Now as you know I check-out “DPReview” multiple times a day — since I don’t want to miss anything.

But I am going to add ‘Explora’ to my list of camera resources. So I thought I should share that with you.
