From Thursday, March 3, 2016 “The Laconia Daily News“.
I could NOT believe this when I saw it in the “Laconia Daily Mail” last week. I knew we were close to April Fool’s day BUT, alas and alak, this was not a prank.
What is Laconia trying to achieve? What is Laconia trying to prove? A Laconia judge has already ruled, twice, that local ‘anti-toplessness’ ordinances do NOT Trump New Hampshire’s “female toplessness is not a crime” law. Attempts to change that law failed just a couple of months ago. So how does Laconia think that they can get around this when Gilford could not.
Yes, I understand Laconia’s concern about ‘Bike Week’. Been there, seen that. Long time ago a female that I was with, while visiting Bike Week (from Meredith) by boat, was urged, repeatedly, by men standing on the Weirs overpass bridge to ‘bare a chest’. Much to my surprise, given that she was not noted for being shy or inhibited, she was mortified! She rushed into the cubby cabin of the boat and refused to come out. That was interesting.
So, let us NOT do a Trump on this; i.e., blame/punish the woman. Toplessness, per NH law, remains a WOMAN’S CHOICE. Pro-Choice when it comes to toplessness. But keep and enforce the ordinance that says that men can be arrested and fined for ‘asking’ women to bare it all (though I have a feeling that this would not also hold up in court due because of 1st Amendment AND because you are not asking the lady to do anything that is a crime in NH.
To I this is all crazy. Just let it be. Pro-Choice for women.
