Think – Today: What Natural Foodstuff Is Said To Never Spoil?

by Anura Guruge

foodstuffThere is one naturally occurring, though animal-related, foodstuff that is said to never spoil — with or without refrigeration. That is pretty amazing. However, it is recommended that is not given to infants less than one year old. What is this foodstuff?

Think first, then research, then THINK again. Think for the pleasure of thinking.

Yesterday’s ‘Think’: “Number of Buddhas” — Per Buddhist tradition, particularly per the ‘Theravāda School of Buddhism‘, as practiced in Sri Lanka, Burma, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos, the last Buddha, i.e., ‘Gautama’, c. 653 BCE to 480 BCE, was the 28th recognized Buddha. There were 27 Buddhas before him and others to come! The belief is that a new Buddha arrives on the scene when the teachings of the previous Buddha are no longer being observed. So, now you know. 28 Buddhas so far. If we assume that they were, on average, 2,000 years apart, that would say that we have had a succession of Buddhas for 56,000 years. WOW. Impressive.

Think – Today: How Many Buddhas Have There Been?

by Anura Guruge

Not a trick question by any means. Did YOU really think that there has only been ONE Buddha? The last one? Gautama Buddha. Oh, dear! So, I ask again, how many Buddhas have there been?

Think first, then research, then THINK again. Think for the pleasure of thinking.

Yesterday’s ‘Think’: “Electoral College” — the U.S. ‘Founding Fathers’, after much deliberation and soul-searching, put it into ‘the system’ to serve as a ‘circuit breaker’ if things went awry during the election. Two hundred and fifty years ago the U.S. electorate was very different to now. There was NO Twitter, FaceBook, Fox News or CNN. A lot of the population lived in isolated, rural areas. They did not have access to up to-date or reliable news about politics. As such the Founding Fathers were worried that the rural populace might, inadvertently, elect a drunkard or criminal as President. (Sex molester were more rare in those days.) The Electoral College was there to override the popular vote IF they, an august body, believed that the people got it wrong. Akin to why the Democratic Party uses ‘Super Delegates‘. The Electoral College still has the power to overturn the vote — though they have never done so.
