Braxton’s 7th Birthday; No McDonald’s, Instead Picnic In The Woods With Homemade Burgers.

For the last 12-years the tradition has been to always take them both, on each other’s birthdays, to McDonald’s at Alton Circle, for burgers (and of late ice cream).

But then came COVID-19.

On May 15, 2020, we made an EXCEPTION & went to McDonald’s for Maya’s 9th birthday. I did NOT like it. Was not a very sanitary experience — as I outlined. So, much so that I got an e-mail from McDonald’s apologizing & a gift card for ONE (whole) burger! Didn’t fancy another full-contact credit card transaction.

So, I went to Hannaford, earlier in the day, & bought some premium, Hannaford-made burgers. Then I cooked them. I cook their burgers WELL. I eat mine basically raw! (Does that make sense?)

I was going to take them to the McDonald’s parking lot! But, it was HOT. 90F.

So, instead, I took them for a picnic in the woods so that they can run around. A route that they are familiar with. Worked out well. Cooler. No one around.

But, we will be back at McDonald’s next year or year after — post-COVID. They know the routine.

The Menu Items I would devour — Multiple Times.

I happened to catch it on ‘Shark Tank‘ last night — serendipitously. Just like ALL the ‘sharks’ I too was hooked.

WOW. My type of place. My kind of menu. I am NOT kidding. The ‘Fat Shack‘ sandwich above, could just as well be called ‘Anu Shack‘ sandwich. Made for I. I would eat three of four of those in a sitting. I have a prodigious appetite.

And the burgers. Ahhh! That TRIPLE burger. Again, made for I. Has my name all over it.

Nearest location to I is going to be in Colorado or Texas. But, this Summer I am going. I kid you not. I have to go eat here. I will spend a few nights close vby so I can eat there 4 or 5 times.

What a concept. Wish they would open one at least in New York. I would be on the train tomorrow, if that was the case.

Maya’s 8th Birthday, Celebrated, Per Custom, At McDonald’s — May 15, 2019.

We have been celebrating the dogs’ birthdays for 15-years or more; even when we lived in Gilford and just had Ulysses (our big Golden boy). In those days, in Gilford, it used to be an ice cream cake from ‘Hannaford’ (or whatever it used to be called in those days). Ulysses, who had grown up under my care, like all my dogs, liked his chocolate — and BEFORE you even ipen your mouth to say anything he lived a very good, active life, with very little wrong with him, until he was past 13. For a big dogs, that is quite brilliant.

Once we move to Alton in 2007 the tradition became that of taking the dogs to McDonald’s at ‘the circle’ for cheeseburgers on their birthday.

Teischan, a great lover of birthdays (albeit, her’s her all time favorite), does a great job of keeping track of the dogs’ birthdays. I have been told, near daily, for the last 2-weeks, that it was going to be Maya’s 8th birthday and that we are going to McDonald’s. Suffice to say I have pictures of such birthdays going back years. A trademark of all these pictures are the dogs LICKING their chops in anticipation! It is classic. They know what is coming. Just search on ‘Maya birthday’ or ‘Braxton birthday’.

This year I decided to change the routine a bit — partly in honor of the ice cream cakes that Ulysses used to get. So, they got an ice cream cone, each, before their two cheeseburgers. I did not hear of any complaints.

The dogs know McDonald’s. I take them outside of their birthdays too. They probably go to McDonalds 7 or 8 times a year — maybe slightly more. I don’t think it is once a month, on rote, but it is thereabouts. Suffice to say I have pictures of such birthdays going back years. A trademark of all these pictures are the dogs LICKING their chops in anticipation! It is classic. They know.

Since we move to Alton 11-years ago taking the dogs to the McDonald’s at ‘the circle’ for cheeseburgers on their birthday has become firm family tradition.

Teischan, a great lover of birthdays (albeit, her’s her all time favorite), does a great job of keeping track of the dogs’ birthdays. I have been told, near daily, for the last 3-weeks, that it was going to be Maya’s 7th birthday and that we are going to McDonald’s.

Maya’s 7th. Braxton is going to be 5, I think, later in the Summer. Given that he is a rescue we are not sure of his exact birthday. So, like the Queen, we have designated an official birthday for him. Teischan will start telling me about it soon.

Enjoy. They did.

P.S., When we lived in Gilford, prior to Alton, and just had our Ulysses, it used to be an ice-cream cake for him from Hannaford’s!

The New “Mooyah” In Rochester, NH, For A Double Burger For Lunch.

Mooyah” Burgers ¤ Fries ¤ Shakes opened at the Rochester, New HampshireMarket Basket‘/’Petco‘ shopping area — right next to ‘110 Grill‘ — quite recently.

Since I am partial to burgers, sans the bun, I was eager to try it out.

Got the chance on Tuesday when we went to ‘Market Basket‘. I walked across around 2pm.

Pretty fancy. Wasn’t crowded. LOT of staff — all exceptionally cheerful & friendly.

A tad pricey. More diner-like pricing rather than Wendy’s or Burger King. But, you can make your own burger. I liked that.

It was good. I didn’t have any fries or a shake. NO HOT DOGS.

Gather it is a chain/franchise from Texas.

It is NOT Shake Shack.

I might go again. Might not. Not sure. They didn’t totally ‘wow’ me over, but I am willing to give them a few tries. Must take Teischan. That would be the acid test; whether she gives the burgers a thumbs up. She is a burger connoisseur.

Braxton, Our Harrier’s 4th Birthday, July 20, 2017 — McDonald’s As Is Customary.

by Anura Guruge

Per what is now a fairly long-standing family tradition we take the dogs, on their birthday, to the local McDonald’s (in Alton, NH) for cheeseburgers (in addition to the other times during the year they get treated at McD). I used to get an ice-cream cake for Ulysses, who loved it, but I was never sure whether ice-cream cakes were the best birthday treats for dogs.

Braxton was a rescue dog that we believed was a beagle until we were told he was a harrier — a beagle on steroids. As such we don’t know his real birthday. The vets believe that he was born around the third week of July in 2013. July 20′ was Deanna’s (now deceased) father’s birthday, so she opted to make it Braxton’s official birthday since it would be easy to remember.

So today, Thursday, July 20, 2017, was Braxton’s ‘official’ 4th birthday — which he shares with Sir Edmund Hillary. It was also the day of the first moon landing.

There is no chance we will forget his birthday. Teischan, now 11, a great fan of birthdays keeps track of the dog’s birthdays. So we were reminded of it for days.

I think the dogs enjoyed the birthday. They went for a swim, in a lake, after that — albeit after about a 90-minute rest to digest the burgers. They get two each now.

Braxton’s 3rd birthday last year.

Déjà vu all over again.
