Last year as you must remember it was the memorable ‘Oxford University Women’s Rugby Team’ Nude Calendar.

Deanna is still using hers.

This year it is the competing British University — Cambridge.

And it is Unisex and there appears to be more men. I ALREADY ordered a copy for Deanna. See below.

Blues“: no, NOT the music.

And yes, the British media has already made all the jokes about “blue (orbs)“! Crude.

merch_cap_largeBlues” in this context is University ‘colors’ (or what they refer to as ‘Letters’ in the U.S.). It means that the person has represented Cambridge at one of the recognized sports. The term goes back to the “Blue Cap” one got when one was selected to play cricket for the elite Cambridge University cricket first XI.

First FOUR Full-Size and hence LARGE.

The Sony a77 II, ordered through Amazon BUT fulfilled (i.e., shipped) by ‘Cameta Camera‘ arrived today, Friday, August 28, 2015 — albeit with Deanna going to the Post Office to pick it up.

Yes, we have a video of me unpacking it. So far, so good. Everything that Cameta said would be in the box was in the box and THERE is, contrary to what folks (including Cameta) had said, a Sony lens hood for the Sony 16-50mm SSM lens. That was a bonus since this is a $75 hood!

I took my time unpacking and sorting out all the bits. The Sony battery, with the Sony charger, took over 4 hours to fully charge. Instruction manual says 3 BUT maybe it was because it was the first charge. More about the Cameta bundle in another post.

Once I had the battery and my 64GB card (as opposed to the one supplied by Cameta) I felt obliged to snap some pictures.

These were taken WITHOUT ANYTHING being set on the Menus — other than date and time. Just set the Focus Mode Dial to ‘A’. That was all. The pictures shown above were shot on ‘P’ and ‘Auto’. I am reasonably happy. Tomorrow I will customize the camera.

It feels good and I love the illuminated viewfinder.

So far, so good.

I am definitely going to get a Sony a77 II. That is now a foregone conclusion. The plan is to also order it, as a 2-lens bundle, from Amazon BUT fulfilled (i.e., shipped) by ‘Cameta Camera‘.

hoodcap1Given who I am, and the amount of research I have done into my camera purchase (over the last 6 weeks), I had a number of questions about this bundle, e.g., two both lenses come with hoods? NO they don’t. Only one, the Tamaron. The Sony lens does not. Sony sells the hood for $75. That is just a piece of plastic. That is a bit excessive — and I say that as a Sony (SNE) stockholder! Well I am not going to get that hood. I actually found a real NEAT one. It is called a ‘Hoodcap’ — hood and lens cap in one. IF it works this will be great because I am always fiddling around for my lens cap. NO, I can’t abide having the lens cap tethered to the camera. That annoys me. The ‘Hoodcap’ seems ingenious. Why didn’t I think of that. Just hope it works. It is only supposed to work on two Sony lenses and the 16 – 50mm I am getting is one of them.

In addition to the hoodcaps I have had other questions. The bundle talks about an HDMI-to-microHDMI cable. That comes with the camera. So I was confused as to why it is listed separately. Also wanted to know how many battery chargers I will get. Appears I will get two. That is good. Well the answers to these last questions came from Abraham Corona — via the Amazon “Ask a Question” feature. He has been EXTREMELY helpful.

On one of his answers he included a link to his Facebook page so I could see his work. I was impressed. I asked him if I can post a few of his images on this blog. He kindly agreed. So that is how you get to enjoy these pictures.

Thank you.

We were in awe of this camera. It took amazing pictures. We still hadn’t worked out all that it could do, or what it was automatically doing for us already. We were beginning to suss out that it, on its own volition, took multiple pictures in burst mode (and I think it can take up to 10 a second) and either just gave us the best or did an composite of all it took. It was pretty cool.

This morning we all hiked down to Halfmoon Lake through trails in the wood, sloshing through the melted snow. When we got to the lake Deanna took the camera out to take pictures. She though the picture in the viewfinder looked dark. So she happened to look at the front of the self-projecting lens. The lens cap was only 1/2 open! Not good. It wasn’t like it was cold. It was a veritable heat wave up here. It was probably 38°F. The second time she re-cycled power, it retracted fully. Then it happened again a few minutes later.

Not good. We have only used it for 20 days. Yes, it is an amazing lens. I have to assume that it has some kind of sealed lubricated mechanism. This camera, as far as we know, has not been dropped or abused. That comes later.

All said, we were not worried. I had got it from Amazon. The reason I insist that we buy through Amazon, rather than anybody else, is there superb customer care. To return it and ask for a replacement was effortless. Took less than 5 minutes in total, including printing the return barcode. We have had great luck with Amazon. So, as far as we know, UPS will come and pickup the return tomorrow. If things go per plan, we should have another one by next week. Yes, Amazon does ‘know’ me. It does keep track of EVERYTHING you do with them and I do more than just buy stuff from them. I have multiple sub-accounts with them for my book publishing, Kindle etc. Amazon knows all of that.

Well, I will keep you posted.

Panasonic Lumix ZS20 did take great pictures. Deanna took this halfway up Prospect Mountain Road, Alton, NH on Friday.

On Halfmoon Lake, Alton, NH, this morning. This was after Deanna got the lens cap to open. This is a very shallow lake. So my chances of falling in are remote.
