Garmin’s $10,000 MARQ 5-Watch, ‘Signature Set’, IF You Have A Rich Girlfriend Who Wants To Impress YOU.

I am sure I am on solid ground here. I can’t be 100% sure BUT I don’t think a wife, irrespective of her wealth or access to funds, will buy you this. She will just know, innately, that it is dumb.

Plus, do NOT excuse me of semism — i.e., a father of three daughters (one of who is a big Garmin fan). The MARQ is not for ladies. It is big and heavy. There is NO MARQ S. It is unashamedly a man’s watch.

So, what do you think.

I did the sums. You are paying $450 for the wooden box and the limited-edition exclusivity.

The five MARQ watches — and I priced them out for you — are: Driver ($2,500), Aviator ($1,950), Captain ($1,850), Adventurer (which used to be the Expedition) ($1,750) & Athlete ($1,500). So, the five watches come to $9,550.

What is NOT included is the Commander ($1,950).

What do YOU think.

I had to smile. Yes, $10,000 is NOT much for 5 watches. Plenty of folks that can afford this without thinking twice. In a world where a person will pay $125,000 for a banana duct taped to a wall, this is quite a BUY!

Click to access article. Google for more.

I have three Garmins right now: two Fenix 6s and a Venu. So, I am NOT in a position to disparage 5 Garmins — though five maybe is overkill.

Why do I have three. Well, I needed TWO — one as a hot backup if one failed. Didn’t want to go even a day without recording my data. The Venu was a bonus — because I like AMOLED screens.

But, 5 MARQs. That would get old pretty quickly I would think.

I am a long-term Garmin shareholder. So, I do care how Garmin spends MY money! Not too thrilled about this. But, Garmin is a Billion dollar company and this is but bagatale.

A friend of mine, another HUGE Garmin fan, asked whether Garmin will really sell any of these Sets. I think they will. In the scheme of things, on a global basis, 100 sets isn’t much. I wouldn’t be surprised if they sell them all.

Merry Christmas.

Hope your girlfriend buys you one. Please send pictures. All the best.

I do keep track of my Activity Trackers.

Why The England Cricket Team Is Wearing Black Armbands During 1st Test Against Windies.

by Anura Guruge

I, of course, watched the highlights. Good game, so far. Windies did better than I had expected, but, again not surprisingly, caved towards the end. But, a better score than many, including I, would have dared predict.

But, I wasn’t sure as to who the black armbands were for. Had to look it up.

Ruth Strauss. Interesting. I wasn’t that familiar with Andrew, never mind the wife. But, he was a former captain and many of the players must have known both of them. So, it was good that they decided to show their respects.

Could prove to be quite the game. Let’s hope that it lasts at least 4-days.

Today Is Cricket Captain Legendary, Clive Lloyd’s Birthday — He Having Been Born On August 31, 1944.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and read here.

I was there in 1979 at Lord’s — in that crowd.

I was among the first wave of those that hit the field.

That is, of course, Clive holding the cup
with my buddies Gordon and Viv in the foreground.

To say that he was one of my idols in the 1970s and early 1980s would be quite the understatement.

In my eyes Clive could do little wrong. Those were THE GLORY days of West Indies cricket and I was so lucky to see a fair bit of it live.

Clive was a gentleman. Polished and dignified. I think he was one of the greatest cricket captains ever though he was blessed to have exceptional talent in his teams.

Happy birthday Clive. You will always be a GREAT.

USS Fitzgerald Collison, V. Strange Course Change By ACX Crystal AND The Radar Mystery.

by Anura Guruge

One hour time discrepancy changes EVERYTHING!

Please check this POST.

USS Fitzgerald ACX Crystal collision Anura Guruge

From ‘Stars and Stripes’. Click to ENLARGE and read here. I FOUND the map that shows the described course change. ‘Stars and Stripes’ link: http://www.stripes.com

Click here for an UPDATED map.

Monday, June 19, 2017 map showing where the
USS Fitzgerald likely was.

It seems inconceivable that a US destroyer, bristling with electronic aids, would be involved in a collision such as this. Even the most basic of radar systems would have provided sufficient data to permit evasive action.

But, I am struck by five things:

  1. I heard on TV that the container-ship, ACX Crystal, had done a strange maneuver ahead of the collision. I went looking for a map and details and found the above. That does seem very strange!
  2. What was happening on the USS Fitzgerald with its radar? They would have had multiple screens, each with a dedicated, trained operator. How did this happen?
  3. Though this should NOT in any way be an ‘excuse’, did the Fitzgerald miss out on getting its radar upgraded in 2014 because of cost cutting? But, even a 1970-era radar system should have been enough for the job at hand and the Fitzgerald, launched in 1994, is not that old.
  4. How did the Captain, Bryce Benson, get injured? Wasn’t he on the bridge — and there should have been plenty of handrails!
  5. Was this MALICIOUS? I am going to refrain from using other words!

This is worth following. Something very strange, akin to the incredible ‘Malaysian Airlines MH370 disappearance‘ occurred here too.

The Disastrous Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Occurred This Day 28-Years Ago; March 24, 1989.

Remember it well since it was the BIG news story at the time my eldest daughter, Danielle, was being born.

So Danielle will be 28 soon. Wow.

The disgraced Captain of the ValdezJoseph Hazelwood, lived in Meredith, New Hampshire, in the late 1990s, when I was also living in Meredith. Saw him once at the Meredith library but did not speak to him.

amlafgdsgdMark my word, something is wrong with Hashim Amla — the captain of the woefully struggling South African’s in India.

I think he has among OTHER things an eyesight problem! In the First Day of the 4th Test against India, in Delhi, he dropped 3 slip catches. Amla dropping catches! I bet prior to that he probably hadn’t dropped three catches in a calendar year. Not right.

He is also getting out CHEAPLY. This used to be, just recently, the World’s #1 Batsman! Something is not right.

In the 3rd Test Match I noticed a MARKED bruise under his right eye. Did he get hit by a ball. That could have done some damage.

I like Amla. What is there not to like. Great cricketer and seems like an all-round nice guy.

His handling of Imran Tahir in the 3rd Test Match showed that — graphically. Not his fault. Being a cricket captain is not something you can be taught. You either have it in you or you don’t. Amla doesn’t. That is fine. Let him go back to being the World’s best opening bat.

He has made a LOT of bad decisions. Another is the omission of Quinton de Kock. Jesus wept. Quinton is class. The new openers. Quinton is better than all of them put together. Plus he is a better wicketkeeper than the one that is struggling like crazy.

And they have AB de Villiers, the ex-captain, in the team. This rotation of captains is silly. Yes, it is a very taxing job BUT if you are good at it, like AB was (and he is good at everything he does) let him have it for life.

So just a heads up. Mark my word. Remember this post.

No, with Hashim Amla, I don’t think there is any match fixing. WOW.

nzmccullumguilty1There is bravado, there is irresponsibility, there is bad and then there is CRIMINAL MISCHIEF.

New Zealand Captain Brendon McCullum is guilty of Criminal Mischief. Plain and simple. His third ball dismissal was beyond the pale. It was ludicrous.

This was no exhibition game or a meaningless, 2-days lost to the rain County Championship game. This was the World (bloody) Cup.

Three balls. Missed all three and bowled off the last.

Yes, he acted like he indeed had three balls. He things and acts like he is God. He is not and we all know it.

This was beyond irresponsible.

He should be charged the second he sets foot back in New Zealand.

He should NEVER be allowed to play for New Zealand again. Players have been banned for less. Yes, even I have been dropped from cricket teams for less. This was not bad luck or poor judgement. This was criminal.

Then there is, alas, the ever niggling red flag. Was there more to his 3 balls than just plain criminal stupidity — though that is also a crime.

We have, over the last two weeks seen some VERY INEXPLICABLE behavior by some VERY senior players. Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and in the 2nd Semi-Final Dhoni. Dhoni not only wasted balls but AMBLED across for the run in which he got RUN OUT. Check out the video. He didn’t dive. He didn’t even rush. If anything he slowed down.

What is going on?

It is here. The day after Christmas — Boxing Day.

It is a major holiday for the British and much of the Commonwealth. A more jolly and festive British equivalent to the Friday after Thanksgiving; lots of sports and some shopping for those so inclined. Of course, it goes without saying, since it is a British holiday that a bit booze is consumed, here and there.

Hunting, fox hunting, used to be a big thing on Boxing Day. Still remember seeing a classic hunt, over the hills, in Owslebury, Hants (that is Hampshire) in 1974.

Sports is BIG part of the beloved ‘Boxing Day’ tradition.

In Blighty, of course, that means ‘footie‘ on Boxing Day — and yes, of course, I used to follow either Bristol City or Southamptondepending on where I was, either Home or Away and ‘we’ had good season tickets for Bristol City.

Alas it is too cold for outdoor cricket in December in the U.K. contrary to what Al Gore may think.

The TRADITIONAL Boxing Day cricket match, of course, is an ‘Ashes’ test against us and the Ozzies.

And that, of course, is happening again on Boxing Day.

That (my) Sri Lanka is playing cricket on Christmas Day kind of angers me. While it is one thing for me to be an heathen, Sri Lanka, despite what they think, is not totally heathen.

We still do have about 8% Christians. Plus, I am sure that the Captain Angelo (Angel) Mathews is Christian. Plus from all the ‘sign of the cross’ that I see from some of the players we do have other Christian players. While playing cricket on Christmas Day is not exactly a crime or sin, or even that bad of a thing, I hate to see Sri Lanka acting like we have no idea of ‘class’. Yes, of course, Pakistan will love to play cricket on Christmas. But, thank God (whoever that may be), that Sri Lanka is NOT Pakistan. I really do despair of what is happening in Sri Lanka.
