A truly historic, iconic and charming place — well worth the $19M I think. It is all supposedly going to charity per the longstanding philanthropy of the Rockefeller family to the Acadia area starting with his father, the GREAT John D. Rockefeller who built the amazing Acadia Carriage Roads and the spectacular Lodges. See the family tree, that I augmented, below. I had to see it visually since I get confused as to which Rockefeller did what particularly so because there is also ‘David Jr.’ whose is still very active in the Acadia area.

While I have not seen the house I am very familiar with ‘the point‘ it is on. I visit it often since one of my favorite micro-hikes, the ‘Cooksey Drive Overlook‘ with its superb panoramic views, is there. This is an area with some of the most exclusive mansions of the area — including that once owned by Martha Stewart.

David Rockefeller died, three months short of his 102nd birthday, on March 20, 2017. This is was precipitated this sale his children not wanting it since they have other places around Acadia! It has to be nice.

Neato!

I think I know where this mansion is. I think we have even driven by it twice. Kind of hard to miss.

From what I can see it is on the way to our ‘secret’ Cooksey Overlook. Well to be fair ALL the grand mansions are that way.

Click to ENLARGE and study. Seal Harbor is right at the Southern entrance to Acadia National Park — the ‘Stanley Brook Entrance’. See picture below. I marked the POND for reference. This is great. Map, of course, from Google.

Seal Harbor. A delightful place. Nice sandy beach with swings for kids.

Stanley Brook Entrance to Acadia National Park

The Stanley Brook Entrance to Acadia National Park is right there — we are talking yards.

Another Rockefeller gem at Acadia. The ‘Gated Lodge’ opposite Jordan Pond. Built in 1932 to house guards to keep motor vehicles off Rockefeller’s much-prized Carriage Roads.

When I saw this in the “Daily Mail” this morning it made me very happy.

We love Acadia National Park and everything around it. We know Seal Harbor and the area around it, which includes our ‘secret’ Cooksey Overlook, very well.

Maybe they will extend the Park to include this Pond — which is basically south of famed Jordan Pond.

The Rockefellers have done so much for Acadia — the Carriage Roads the most visible.

Good stuff. Made me happy. Rejoice.

Yes, we plan to make one of our twice yearly annual pilgrimages to Acadia National Park soon.
