Quite The Snowstorm Today In Central New Hampshire — Mid-April Be Damned.

by Anura Guruge

Well we were given plenty of warning. The weather forecasters were talking about this nearly a week ago. I think they were quite chuffed that they got it right & saw it coming a week ago.

Given that we were close to 70°F two-days ago this was quite the change.

Yes, having lived in New Hampshire for 36-years I am used to seeing snow in April & May — & possibly even June.

This was quite the storm. The snow was coming down in HUGE blobs. Heavy. But, the air temperature was always slightly above freezing. So, the snow would melt on dark surfaces — especially roads.

Though the heavy snow stopped in the afternoon it was still sleeting at 11pm when I went for my evening walk. Not nice.

Well, I thought you might like to see what it looked like.

Yesterday, The First & Only Crocus, Today Three; Nature Is So Fecund.

by Anura Guruge

Pretty amazing. Nature is SO DETERMINED. So anxious to propagate the species. You have to stop & wonder.

Yes, we have sprouts all over the place. Spring is springing. SMILE.

The First Crocus Of 2021 In Our Yard — In Central New Hampshire.

by Anura Guruge

Saw it by accident. Hadn’t gone looking for any sprouts. Thought it was too early. We still had a snow covering just a few days ago.

This is a bank, in the yard, that gets a fair amount of afternoon sun. The crocuses here flower earlier than others most every year.

After I saw this one I went looking. Just this solitary crocus.

Wow.

So, 4-days later than last year, BUT unlike last year, no snow on the ground, at all, at all.

The Last Of The 2020 New Hampshire Foliage — November 22.

by Anura Guruge

No color on the trees. Actually very few leaves in total — & those are the shriveled, brown ones. Colored leaves are too heavy. So, these as you can see are on the ground. We are expecting a winter mix tonight. So much of the leaves, on the ground, will be a soggy mess tomorrow. SMILE.

We Still Have Foliage COLOR In Central New Hampshire — November 12, 2020.

I have been contending with such an avalanche of falling leaves, on a daily basis, that I had NOT really stopped to take note of the COLOR still around. My fault. But, this morning I happened to glance out of the window & noticed that it was still ‘red’. Ah? Color. So, I went out & looked. We still have color. Not as RED & radiant as it was a month ago, but nonetheless still color. Maybe this is because we haven’t had many/any major storms. What rain we have had has been light. I will keep you posted.

BEFORE & AFTER

They, led by ‘Hal’ work HARD & Well

‘Hal’ is responsive. He is ALWAYS checking for messages!

Hal, in the middle, checking his phone — for messages.

Absolutely AMAZING. From first contact to getting driveway sealed — 5-days!

Yes, 5-days. 5-days.

A mutual friend, ‘Heath England‘ of ‘Autofinders‘ (Laconia, NH), gave me his contact info. last Friday — i.e., July 31, 2020.

I called him right away. He asked me to text him my info. I did. He said he will come by & give me an estimate as soon as possible.

He texted me Sunday afternoon. Sunday afternoon. He was here within the hour. Sunday afternoon. Wow. I was impressed. I like folks who work hard.

His price was DECENT. Very decent. Nothing to quibble about. I was HAPPY. I accepted it on the spot.

He said he will try & get it done within 2-weeks. I pressed him. SMILE. I have been trying to get this driveway paved since mid-June.

He texted me Monday & said ‘Wednesday’. But, then we had the storm coming.

He texted again this morning, Wednesday, to say he will be around this afternoon.

He was. Well, the pictures tell the story.

They were GOOD. I was impressed.

I gave him a nice ‘tip’ PLUS went to Hannaford & bought all three of them ‘drinks’ for when they were finished. I was that happy. SMILE.

This was a great relief. I had been screwed by ‘Sunday Paving & Sealing’ in Wolfeboro! Forget Sundays. I couldn’t get any sense — let alone any work — Monday to Friday. Stark contrast from HD. I had ACCEPTED an estimate from ‘Sunday Paving & Sealing’ on June 23. They said ‘within a month’. Well on July 30 I was still waiting. They then said, ‘September’. That is when I went looking again, & luckily, thanks to Heath, came across ‘Hal’. I am so happy.

Total, unreserved RECOMMENDATION — HD Seal & Stripe.

Great folks. Great attitude.

Good work. Good price. Good work ethic.

They are at their best. I also found two totally new plants — meaning in a place where I have never seen them before. About 1.5-miles away from ‘MY’ site. That was cool. Made me happy. Made me SMILE. I hope it makes you smile too. SMILE.

Shot at NIGHT.

Pictures taken today, Friday, May 22 & last night. The purplish color at night is from my artificial lighting — i.e., the LED headlights I wear on my head.

A second batch of three have started to flower. So, this morning I had 6 flowers rather than three. Still less than in prior years.

Enjoy.

Only 3 that have flowered — so far.

2nd day they have been pink.

I have spotted a few other plants closeby, but no flowers on them yet.

So, this is today’s, i.e., May 20, picture. Enjoy.

As promised I have been checking on them daily. Today, for the first time, I could see the pink. Still quite faint.

I am sure the color will kick-in, fast, over the next few days.

I will take pictures, promise.

I go by everyday and invariably have a phone/camera with I.

These are the only ones I have seen so far in 2020.
