‘Etsy’ & Its CEO Are Taking A Very Explicit & Bold Stand On Their Support For #BlackLivesMatter.

by Anura Guruge

Bravo! Etsy.

I am proud & glad that I am shareholder. Thank YOU.

Click to access the Etsy blog post.

This was the RIGHT thing to do. I am so proud of them. Bravo.

I know that they must have weighed all the pros & cons & decided that this was STILL the RIGHT thing to do.

I am not sure how many other companies are doing similar BUT I am very proud of Etsy.

I have been a big fan of theirs for years — & I have put my money where my mouth is by becoming a shareholder last year.

Boeing CEO, Dennis Muilenburg’s Shameless, Disingenuous, Publicity-Stunt 737 MAX Test Flight.

by Anura Guruge

Click image to access the ‘Reuters’ original.

Dennis Muilenburg, Boeing’s shameless, disingenuous CEO really must think we, the public, are super gullible and stupid.

Wow, he goes on a Boeing 737 MAX MCAS anti-stall software test flight and he wants us to think that this proves that the software is fixed and the plane is now safe.

A publicity stunt worthy of Donald Trump.

This was probably the safest flight ever of a Boeing plane.

Most experienced, best trained flight crew who must have spent hours, beforehand, going through all contingencies. Plus, they probably had multiple senior pilots all ready to back each other up. And I am sure they even had overrides that could be activated from the ground.

Dennis Muilenburg took ZERO risk. He was as safe as houses. What a con artist.

Yes, Boeing’s name has being besmirched by this whole sorry Boeing 737 Max saga. But, Dennis Muilenburg, added to it. I am sure he will have to resign over this at some point. That is my only consolation.

IF The Supposed Canon EOS RP, Due Soon, Does Not Have In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS), It Is DOA!

by Anura Guruge

Click to access “The New Camera” post.

It was lack of IBIS that was the deal killer for I.

Click to access the ‘DPReview.com’ original.

If it doesn’t have IBIS it will be a total waste of time — let alone money.

Just last week, as you can see above, Canon’s CEO said that they expect the camera market to FALL 50% by next year! That is a HUGE drop in sales, BUT easy to see. Smartphones are making cameras obsolete. Even I, a camera buff, use my Google Pixel 2 much more than my two high-end cameras! Yes, I plan to get a new full-frame mirrorless soon, but I am in that shrinking pool of folks still interested in buying a real camera.

So, I am keeping a very close eye on this upcoming Canon announcement. I will, of course, keep you posted.

IBM’s Ginni ‘Tonic’ Rometty Would Have Been FIRED 2 Years Ago IF She Was A Man!

by Anura Guruge

The company she keeps.

I ‘speak’ here as a proud ex-IBMer, one who made a decent living for 30-years as an IBM ‘expert’ and one who has been accused, more than once, of ‘bleeding blue when cut‘ (‘Big Blue‘ being IBM’s nickname).

I do NOT know Rometty. I never met her during my terms at IBM — my last stint c. 2001.

I have only watched her from far and she has NOT impressed me one iota.

20 CONSECUTIVE (bloody) quarters of declining revenues. Yes, 20 quarters — 5 years. That is basically a WHOLE tenure as IBM’s Chairman.

Come ON! Give me a break. She would have been out on her ear ages ago if she was a man.

Now it is looking embarrassing to all.

IBM has had some GREAT CEOs and Chairmen, not even counting the two father-son Watsons. Cary, Opel & Akers were GOOD. Gerstner, who I ‘knew’, was BRILLIANT. Palmisano was not great. Gin & Tonic Rometty, however, is the worst.

And IF you did NOT know. IBM’s stock price is what it is, because she was buying back BILLIONS to prop up the price!

Warren Buffett over the weekend admitted that he made a mistake in buying IBM. Well, he is getting OLD.

The best thing for IBM is to go cap-in-hand to Amazon and ask them, please, if they would buy IBM to put it out of its misery.

I do sympathize. I too would rather faint and leave the stage than EVER having to extol the virtues of a German car.

This guy, I hear, is known for his publicity stunts including doing presentations with his fly at ‘half mast’ — wearing pink, frilly underwear! Again you have to feel sorry for him. He has the misfortune of having to promote German bloody cars.

And on the same day Jaguar DEFIES gravity
rather than succumb to it.

Watch this, the Jaguar F-Pace and be AMAZED.

Exceptional Value-for-Money Home Security Solutions From ‘Northeast Security’, Alton, N.H.

Ask for ‘Craig’

When we bought this house in Alton (N.H.), new, 8 years ago, it already had a fairly decent security system in place, wired in. Given that I have had security systems in nearly all the houses I have owned I was no stranger to them. The system that was in place had been well conceived. It had been installed by a local Alton firm, ‘Northeast Security Agency’. The system, however, was not activated and none of the folks involved in the sales had any idea as to how it worked. They gave me a business card for ‘Northeast Security Agency‘ and told me to ask for ‘Craig’. That is how I got to know, to my advantage, Craig Stevenson, the CEO, owner and founder.

Craig came over a few days after I called him and showed me the ropes. I was impressed. Over the years, with Craig’s advice and help, I tweaked the system a bit — added some sensors, upgraded others. Anytime I had an issue I knew that Craig would be there to take care of it and do so graciously and competently — without fuss. I get, multiple media, frequent offers from the likes of ADT. I would never dream of switching from Northeast Security. I very much doubt whether the CEO of ADT will come and fix any problems I encounter.

Recently I upgraded the system a tad. Craig gave me a very fair price. I was pleased and impressed. And that to me has always been the beauty of dealing with Craig and Northeast Security. A fair, honest price — upfront — and no nickel and diming after that. That is basically what prompted me to write this post. In reality Northeast does not need any publicity from me. They deal with some VERY BIG fish — shopping malls, colleges, schools, businesses … They even provide security guards. That why it is kind of neat that they also do, very well and diligently, home security systems. They know their stuff.

So if you are in the ‘Northeast’ and you need a security solution you do yourself a favor by first calling ‘Northeast’ and asking for Craig. Yes, the voice-mail will give you a ‘Craig’ option.

Click to access MarketWatch.com article.

I knew John, talked with him a few times and have absolutely nothing against him. John is a good man. But as I said in November John has been doing this job for too long. 20 years is enough for anybody, even someone as good as John. This is a good move for all.

I have been wracking my brain all day but I cannot recall or place the new 49-year old CEO Chuck Robbins. He joined Cisco in 1997. I was doing a lot of work for Cisco at that time and visited them often. I consulted for them well into 2001. But Cisco was a big place.

I was happy to hear the news. John will still be around. I hope he doesn’t turn into a Jack Welch. I somehow doubt it. John has genuine class.

This stock chart, going back to Cisco’s IPO tells the whole story. Yes, I owned a lot of shares during the 1996 – 2002 period! Yes, I remember when it was above $80.

As promised over the weekend I sent on e-mail and made three calls.

As I had said I had had a fair number of interactions with DISH’s V.P. of International Programming over what used to be an unpopulated electronic program guide; i.e., the description for each program just saying ‘Cricket’ rather than what the actual match was. So you folks really should thank me for the schedule that you now see on Willow. Though not perfect you can at least see the listings for the Tests, ODIs, T20s and IPLs. I went to the CEO of DISH with this. Unlike the CEO of TDS, the CEO of DISH (or his office to be fair) had the V.P. of International contact me.

The V.P.’s name was ‘Chris Ku….‘. Though he went at each other on e-mail, back-and-forth, he was a DECENT guy. And towards the end we had made the peace.

Then in September 2011 I lost my ‘Cricket Pack’ — though I was paying for it. I hit the roof. It transpired that I needed a SECOND DISH to get the ‘Cricket Pack’. Read about it here.

I again went to the CEO. This time I heard that he actually read my e-mail and made a few calls.

It was funny the next morning. I was getting calls from folks, all agitated. Suffice to say the 2nd Dish was installed within the day, and no cost.

I also had two gentleman give me their phone numbers and say, PLEASE call us next time before you e-mail the CEO. Nice.

I hadn’t chatted with Chris K. in months. Sent him an e-mail over the weekend. It bounced. He was gone.

This morning I called up one of those numbers. An Indian gentleman called ‘Amir‘. He had left Dish too. Confirmed that Chris had indeed left. He said that quite a few folks had left.

OK. These are the folks that got the first Cricket Pack.

V.P.’s of large corporations like DISH do not leave just for the heck of it.

So there must have been issues.

Bottom line I am without contacts at DISH. Yes, I still know how to contact the CEO. But, doesn’t seem worth it. I am probably leaving DISH anyway.

So this is just a FYI. Also a chance to again stress the difference between Dish (and GoDaddy) and TDS.
