Definitely The Most Colorful, Probably The Most Beautiful, Chinese Umbrella You Are Likely To See.

The BEFORE picture.

Yes, it started out a virginal white on Tuesday, February 29, 2019.

Yes. Teischan’s (12) work — her mandalas. I did my best, but pictures don’t do justice to this. It is pretty amazing to see.

I am CHUFFED. This was what I was hoping when I took her to this event, at the UNH ‘Confucius Center’. Yes, she put the white skin on herself. So, this is all her handiwork.

She, deservedly, is rather proud of it. I want her to make more. I sourced blank umbrellas online. But, for now she wants to just stick with this.

More pictures, hopefully showing the whole process from the skeleton frame to this over the weekend.

Enjoy.

This was THE event — for 2019 Chinese New Year.

This was following the extremely successful traditional Chinese umbrella event at the UNH ‘Confucius Institute‘ on Tuesday, January 29, 2019.

Well, I have been celebrating Chinese New Year with the good folks of the UNH ‘Confucius Institute‘ for quite a few years. Here are some other pictures from years past — and note that I wear the same red-themed outfit each year! Consistency is one of my many faults.

Happy New Year — the ‘Year of the Pig’.

This colorfully mesmerizing array of traditional Chinese umbrellas were on display at this event:

Obviously, as the pictures attest, we attended. It was very, very good — but I knew it would be. The ‘Confucius Institute’ at UNH (Durham, NH) has never let me down for the last 6- to 7-years. They are pretty amazing.

There was also a Chinese concert given by High Schoolers from the local Oyster River School:

Then there was the umbrella making. That was something else too and Teischan made one. More on that in a separate post. Only so much I can cram in before it gets too hard to appreciate. {SMILE}

95-Year Old, Chinese Tung Oil Paper Umbrella — Still Operational.

This was at the ‘Traditional Tung Oil Paper Umbrella’ event, at the ‘Confucius Institute’ at UNH (Durham, NH) that I wrote about yesterday.

You don’t come across too many umbrellas, operational to boot, that are 95-years old. And certainly not one as beautiful as that. This was the oldest umbrella they had. I gather they, of course, have older in China. Look at the string work inside. Supposedly there are 3,000 ‘knots’ in that.
