Well, COVID has prevented us from doing most things we do around the holidays — NO eating out & saddest of all, NO ‘Revels’. So, I kind of opted to go go all out on the Advent calendar front — albeit, for the 1st time in memory with NO chocolate calendars. Typically, somebody, who we will not name gets two chocolate calendars. This year none.
Instead, I got her the wooden heirloom one. It matches her room quite nicely. She likes it. I had to get ANOTHER jewelry advent calendar and use its contents to fill the drawers. So, I guess I got 5 calendars — actually 6 if I include one I got for a 6-year old relative.
Getting this year’s Lego advent was NOT easy. Amazon would ONLY offer delivery after Christmas. So, I had to make a trip to the local Kohl’s to get one.
I got the 2006 & 1998 on eBay. The 1998 one, the very 1st, is cool. Looks so different to the ones we are now used to.
She had 6 Lego Advent calendars prior to this. Now she has 9. SMILE.
The 2019 Advent Calendars.
The prior 6.
Two are decorations that went up
on the tree.
She will put away the 2019 Lego calendar with care to add to the 5 sets from prior years. Then she will bring it out next year — and I have already been told that she wants a Lego 2020 Advent calendar. I will keep you posted.
There are 5 Lego Advent calendars here — 4 set-up and the 5th, which was tree decorations, already hung on the tree. This represents the last 5 years worth of Lego advent calendars. At 13 I thought, mistakenly, that she wouldn’t want a Lego and instead would want an ‘adult’ one (e.g., jewelry).
I was WRONG. I was told off in no uncertain terms. She claims she is not too old. So, of course, I got her one. And an jewelry one — and a chocolate one. Actually two, one for the 19-year old too. She doesn’t do Advent!
It is Friday, November 30, 2018, and Teischan (12) is all set for the Advent. She has been counting the days for weeks! This afternoon she set up her old advent calendars from years past — along with the two, from this year, containing chocolates.
I got her a real nice wooden advent calendar today BUT, alas, she didn’t like it! So, I have put it up for sale. She, however, wants the money.
IF the truth be told, I would have to confess that I do have a ‘thing’ for Advent calendars. I used to have a really nice and fancy one shaped like a Cathedral.
So, this is living vicariously, I guess. I have been getting her a Lego Advent Calendar each year for the last … you got it … 4-years. She was NOT expecting one this year. So, that came as a big surprise for her. She is redecorating her room and doesn’t have places to put them all.
The 2 chocolate calendars is also a tradition. One was never enough. So, I give her two. It is not like I spoil her.
Teischan (10), like I, is very fond of all holidays — especially those that involve presents and food. Christmas, suffice to say, is her favorite — as it is in my case too. We have already started listening to Christmas music and I have started shopping (online).
On Sunday morning, November 20, 2016, she set up 3 of her Advent calendars. She also has two chocolate ones, but she doesn’t put them on display.
The fireplace, which she built, is for her two American Girl Dolls. Some of the Christmas presents she wants are for the dolls. I guess that makes sense.
So, happy holidays.
