This was at the ‘Traditional Tung Oil Paper Umbrella’ event I wrote about yesterday.

It was at the University of New Hampshire, ‘Confucius Institute’ today and they are doing it again tomorrow, January 30, 2019. If you are around please try to attend. It is free.

She and 69 of her classmates are going to China (with National Geographic) this April. She was amazing. Had close 70 folks, having lunch, totally transfixed. The Oyster River Chorus and Band will perform this and other songs in China.

Mixed Choir & Alumni Sing.

As is my wont and weakness I focus — quite literally — on Devanee, though in this case I did do a few pan-outs and also tried to capture Ben Cookinham, particularly during his solo, because he is Devanee’s boyfriend and I kind of like him (though, of course, the two do not necessarily go hand in hand).

The two videos filmed with my Panasonic Lumix FZ1000.

These were the third set of videos I have shot with this camera, these, the concert the week before, being the first.

I didn’t have the time to set any video-related settings. So these were shot in ‘auto’ mode using the default settings.

bloodyshitneck

antichristThis a major and unexpected BLOW.

This was the signature event. People came from far and wide (one lady from San Diego) to sing in this Chorus. They had been doing it for years.

This new Chairman, Jim Shildneck, is proving to be a right royal PAIN IN THE NECK.

Shildneck. Well I am teaching people to pronounce his name in a whole different way which better portrays his personality and outlook.

I am going to contact Fidelity, a long time Great Waters sponsor, and have words with them about their sponsorship in 2016.

What a pain in the bloody neck. Jim Shildneck. Let his name live in infamy as of now.

42nd Street, New York, NY was truly at Wolfeboro, New Hampshire last night, at the ‘Kingswood Arts Center‘, as the immensely talented and outlandishly enthusiastic “Great Waters Chorus & Orchestra” regaled an appreciative crowd of 500+ with the “Best of Broadway” and it was THE BEST. Though I have lived on a dirt road in New Hampshire for longer than I care to admit I am not a stranger to Broadway or Haymarket (sometimes having seen the same production in both places). And I have seen “42nd Street” in Broadway and “Titanic” (the musical) in Boston. So I know what to expect and what to look for. And we sure got our monies worth last night (though as a “Great Waters” volunteer, I luckily, did not have to pay though I would have gladly paid to see this). Full Disclosure. My 14-year old daughter, Devanee, my soprano (also of “Clearlakes Chorale” fame) was singing with this always festive Chorus (for her second year) and I knew some of the singers and the maestro conductor, Chris Shepard, from last year (not to mention the percussionist Dov Schiller, who also plays for “Clearlakes“). But, even if I put aside a fair chunk of bias this was still GREAT and there were upwards of 500 who would have agreed.

Wolfeboro is truly blessed when it comes to music. This was a masterclass performance with some genuine professional stars bolstering the giddily enthusiastic and committed amateurs. Everybody was having fun, before, during and after. It truly was festive. ‘Boston Pops’ in Wolfeboro. Another great success for “Great Waters” and its proud founder Dr. Gerry Mack, who was at hand to welcome and thank the audience and performers. I had a ball (as I invariably do). Devanee and I did not get home till 12:30 am. If you missed this concert make a note in your calandar for July 2016. They will be BACK. Rejoice.

This is the annual, much anticipated “Great Waters” chorus concert. The other concerts during the season done by “Great Waters” is when they host other performers. THIS is their ‘in-house’ show. This goes back to the origins of “Great Waters”. Choral music in the Summer for the good folks of Wolfeboro, N.H.

Devanee is singing with the Chorus for her second year. So, of course, we are pulling for this even more — though, of course, we are involved these days with all the GW concerts.

Last year was brilliant and I am NOT just saying that because Devanee sang with them. It was good and I think it was a packed house. This year should be great as well. Good selection of songs. I will get, as with “Clearlakes Chorale“, get to hear much of it before hand as I will be taking Devanee for rehersals and helping, most of the day Friday & Saturday, with setup.

We were so glad to hear that they rescheduled the concert from Saturday, due to the storm,
because we really wanted to go and couldn’t do so on Saturday given
the conflict with the Clearlakes Chorale concert
(given that Devanee sings in that).

P1070230
P1070229
P1070228

It was impressive as we had expected. We went last year, for the first time, and liked what we saw and heard.

Glad we went.

Yes, we know Bobby Burns the Music Director and Conductor as well as a couple of the kids
since they also sings with Clearlakes.

These kids are good and so is Robert Burns
(and yes, he is named after the Great Man).

It always amazes me how the prosperity and pedigree of Wolfeboro, the Oldest Summer Resort in the U.S.,
is, unmistakably, reflected by these kids, the staff and the opulent setting.

Yet again, BRAVO Wolfeboro.

Two, possibly three, choir pieces were Acapella since Robert wanted to showcase the
voices of the kids sans help from a piano. It worked and it was good.

Robert wanted us to savor and appreciate some ‘crunchy melodies‘. We did.

The percussion African, ‘Kila Jambo Na Wakate Wake‘, with a Kenyan Kingswooder (new to the school this year)
on drums was good and reminded me of this piece from ‘Christmas at Luther‘.

The Concert Band belies their age and experience. They played some long pieces — very professionally.
A great credit to them, the staff, Bobby Burns and Wolfeboro.

It was mid-week and there wasn’t as many people as their should be — always bearing in mind that it is a
HUGE auditorium.

I am glad we went. You should try to make it next year.

Merry Christmas.
