We were back at the ‘Cinemagic‘ and taking ‘a selfie my way’ is de rigueur. I don’t think I have ever been to Cinemagic and left without taking a selfie. They have such great mirrors. Tailor made for my needs. I am sure I have taken more ‘selfies my way’ at Cinemagic than anywhere else. SMILE.

‘Little Tokyo & Saigon’ — Amazing Place, Outstanding Food, Our New Place To Eat In Portsmouth.

This duck salad is beyond amazing. WOW.

2 blocks SOUTH of ‘Cinemagic’.

Little Tokyo & Saigon
2800 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth
(603) 427-8690

This was serendipity to the power of 2.

I knew that the ‘Downton Abbey’ movie we were going to see last night, at ‘Cinemagic‘, Portsmouth, was not going to finish till after 9pm. That meant that “Warren’s Lobster House“, our favored place for dining in Portsmouth for the last couple of years, was going to be closed. And not just them. Most of the restaurants in Portsmouth would also be closed. We know this. We have been in this boat before.

So, I did some Google researching before we left. This place was close, open till 10:30 and had an interesting menu. I definitely wanted to try the ‘Duck Salad’ if nothing else.

We got to the ‘Cinemagic’ 10-minutes ahead of schedule. So, I went and checked this place out before the movie. It is in a small mall, tucked in. You need to be looking for it. Now that I knew where it was, we got there, without issue, straight after the movie.

It is different inside. Green, bright, interesting lighting and just cozy and welcoming. Smelt divine.

What a place. Mainly ‘rich’ Asians. Great atmosphere. I loved it. My kind of place.

The Food. The Food.

What can I say other than it was way, way, way beyond expectations. Huge portions too. Given that it was late and there were two of us on strict diets I didn’t order much. even so we had three large containers of takeaway though we ate like there was no tomorrow.

The ‘Duck Salad’ was something else. It was so, so, so good. Teischan, no doubt the pickiest, fussiest and most critical eater in the whole world, tasted it — because I was raving about it — and liked it. Enough said. You can’t get higher praise than that.

Lovely service. Very friendly.

There was nothing one could find fault with. Good prices too.

Oh, they have fried ice cream.

We are going back. I will go back, though it is 1-hour away, just to eat there.

Highly, highly recommended.

Smile. I blew my diet. I think I gained 6 pounds!

Well it always seems to happen when I am in Portsmouth. The top one was at ‘Cinemagic‘ when we were there for the ‘Downton Abbey‘ movie. I don’t think I have ever been to Cinemagic and left without taking a selfie. They have such great mirrors. Tailor made for my needs.

The second, later in the evening, was at this Japanese/Chinese restaurant we discovered. Everything about it was good. I will write about it later tonight.

‘Downton Abbey’ THE MOVIE Will Be At ‘Cinemagic’, Portsmouth, N.H. As Of Friday, September 20, 2019.

Of course we are definitely going to see it. That is a given.

That it is at ‘Cinemagic‘, Portsmouth is GOOD. That is our favorite movie theater. Not the closest. That would be Gilford or Concord. But, they do not hold a candle to ‘Cinemagic‘.

I was just checking today. So, this is exciting though I already have a pretty good idea what the movie is all about. I saw an interview on British ‘Sky News’ earlier today. SMILE.

I am sure it is showing in Manchester, Nashua etc. But, Portsmouth is good. I am cool.

Anura Guruge December 27 2019 Portsmouth NH

It appears that I can’t go to see a movie at ‘Cinemagic‘, Portsmouth, without taking a selfie — my way. I have quite a collection of these ‘Cinemagic’ selfies. They have the ideal mirrors — big, bright and clean. So, this was today when we went to see ‘Mary Poppins — The Return‘.

Another cinema, like my favorite “Cinemagic” in Portsmouth, with great big, clean and well-lit mirrors ideal for taking selfies my way. Couldn’t resist. Nobody around. So, had to snap these three. We had gone to the ‘Regal 10‘ to see ‘The Grinch‘.

The “Castle in the Clouds” is like “Cinemagic” in Portsmouth. If I am there it is unlikely I will leave without exploiting their great mirrors to take a selfie or two — my way. So, when we went to “Christmas at the Castle” this past Saturday. I used three different mirrors. Lighting was a bit tricky. But, it was fun.

“The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” Movie (2018) — V. Cruel Bait And Switch!

by Anura Guruge

Click to access IMDb.com listing for this disappointing movie.

DISAPPOINTING — Teischan (12) a connoisseur of “The Nutcracker“, having taken part in two semi-professional productions and having seen the ballet multiple times, including with the ‘Boston Ballet‘.

Flaccid — the Dad, who was not impressed at all, at all. It was a matinee and our two tickets, together, came to $16.50. In reality, that was $9.50 TOO MUCH. Waste of money. Wait until it comes out on TV.

I guess you CANNOT IMPROVE on the original and it was stupid to try.

I am both surprised and disappointed with Disney. They could have and should have done better. This was … well, FLACCID. Really. Flaccid.

It could have been the projection at the theatre we attended — our perennial, ‘Cinemagic‘ in Portsmouth — but the colors were dull. Even dark. More vibrant colors would have helped. Actually anything would have helped.

PLEASE do NOT go to this expecting the dancing, music and story of the original. This is a cruel, very cruel bait-and-switch.

Taking Selfies My Way — Part XXXIV; Merrimack [NH] — September 27, 2018.

Both in Merrimack, but different locations, a couple of hours apart. The top one was at the Cinemagic when we went to see ‘House with a Clock in its Wall‘. As with the Cinemagic, in Portsmouth, it has bright, airy and EMPTY men’s rooms with huge mirrors. The other two were at Applebee’s after the movie.

“House With A Clock In Its Wall” Movie (2018), In IMAX — Puerile, At Best!

by Anura Guruge

Click to access the IMDB.com listing.

It was a movie Teischan (12) wanted to see and she LOVED it. Already told me that she wants the DVD for Christmas. That she liked it was good.

I found it extremely boring and stupid with sans redeeming virtues! Now don’t get me wrong. 99.5% of the movies I see at a cinema is for the kids. So, I am a veteran of kids’ movies. In most cases I like kids’ movies. But, this was very puerile.

But, if you have a pre-teen you probably will have to sit through it. Just sit back and think of the Queen.

Went to Cinemagic, in Merrimack, NH, to see it in IMAX. That was a waste of money. IMAX helped it none. So, don’t bother with the IMAX.

Two things that were chilling. We went to a 3:30pm showing. Theater that could probably seat 275 — 300. Total of six — yes, 6 — including us. Talk about a private viewing. I was talking to one of the kids who work there after the movie. Said it had been a quiet week and that today had been the worst. They had sold 43 tickets in total, ALL DAY. Wow.
