We have been volunteering at the ‘Spring Cleanup‘ for the last two years. This was our 3rd year — at least for Teischan & I. We have also done the ‘Fall Cleanup’.
Cleaning the trolleys have become our speciality. This was our 3rd year doing so. There was only two this year. We have done all three in prior years. This year we had to fisrt remove Christmas decorations from December. It is all fun.
Then I agreed to pain the back wall of the ‘Cafe’. I had NO idea what I was volunteering for — & was definitely not dressed for painting. But, c’est la vie. It was a beautiful day & I am used to going topless. Yes, the wall needs another coat of paint. We, however, had run out of both paint & time. But, it will do for now.
The Castle is opening on July 1, 2020. It is looking good.
We will make a few visits between now & Christmas.
As we had done last year, we were there for the ‘Spring Cleanup‘ this year too — except this time it was just Teischan (13) & I. Given our ‘success’ cleaning the trolleys last year we volunteered to do that again this year. And again another change. Last year they had two trolleys out. This year just one. The other two were being fixed. Plus, they needed to use the trolley latre that morning to ferry some new employees up the Castle for orientation. So, we only had an hour — maybe an hour and a half at best. We did our best. They wanted us to concentrate on the inside.
Amazing how dirty it gets. I spent a fair amount of time on the brass. Got some of it gleaming.
Beautiful day! The sun was out, in glory, and it was borderline hot. Great day to work outside. Having lunch on the terrace was even better. It was a privilege.
We had fun. Great people and a worthy cause — and you can’t beat the setting.
They have a new — very nice and knowledgeable ‘Director of Buildings & Grounds — Al Sochard. He was very kind and helpful.
A good day was had by all — methinks.
Judging by those that stayed for lunch we didn’t have as many people as last year. But hard to tell. Some left before lunch.
Weather permitting we will be there for the October Clean Up too.
